From data that arrived yesterday we can be somewhat more precise about Tõnn’s whereabouts in the previous story about his travels: the night of September 24 he spent 3,5 km north of Geneva’s airport, in France (180 m from the Swiss border). The day before that there was however a confirmed location in Switzerland too, and probably he crossed the not very evident border between the countries a few more times ... But in the morning of September 24, Tõnn set a south-westerly course and without making any longer pauses during daylight time he reached the Spanish border in two days.

The border point, at a height of 1500 m, where Tõnn left France is called Coll d'Ares and the surroundings look like this at this time of the year:

In Spain Tõnn did not head towards his last-year winter quarters at once, but flew inland instead, and yesterday evening he was 150 km from the El Hondo wetlands (where he spent the winter last year). His route last autumn was quite similar:
The map shows:
Green line – last year’s autumn migration;
Orange line – this year’s spring migration;
White line with red dots – present autumn migration
