I was wondering if I could ask you for help. I have just found a paper by Ülo Väli about breeding biology of LSEs. The paper was just published in Ardea, and it contains several color pictures of these birds. On this picture below there is a typical adult LSE on the right and young eagle which to me looks like a hybrid LSE/GSE. The eaglet wears white plastic band with capital letters "LU". I would be grateful if you could comment what you think about this bird. It would be great if someone with access to the database could check under which species this eaglet was registered.

Maybe I am wrong but I think that the eaglet looks like a male(because he has long legs).

15:30 -18:00 – on and off the computer - no eagle calls

18:29 – 18:38 – very distant calls by fledgling

18:47 – an adult calls and eaglet responds, still far from the nest
18:49 – young calls
18:51 – adult calls, probably wants to deliver food to eaglet
18:53 – young calls closer to the nest, then gets quiet

20:51 – adult and young talk to each other
20:55 – Tiiu lands on nest with food and calls, young responds from a distance
20:58 – an eagle lands in a tree close to the nest tree (they make a lot of noise while landing), Tiiu keeps calling
20:59 – this eagle, most likely fledgling, takes off and flies away while calling, Tiiu gets quiet, young calls in a distance
21:00 – Tiiu takes off and flies away, it’s too dark to see if she took the prey, but I am sure she did
21:03 – young calls in a distance
21:05 – 21:06 – young calls again and this was her last call this evening
21:15 – it’s totally dark, I can hear only low voice of Song Thrush or Blackbird or both of them

You are welcomed, Helle. This was an interesting observation. Tiiu is a dedicated mother - she didn't hesitate to chase stubborn eaglet through dark forest to give it some food before night.

Actually, she took away some prey on a short visit to the nest this morning (at 6:37) after calling for a while. I didn't know about her visit last night, so what I saw this morning makes more sense now.

I guess we were quite lucky to see something of the eaglet during the first 24 hours or so after the cam went back online. It's obviously a pretty rare event at this point.

:hi:
Yes, I scrolled back and saw Tiiu coming at 6:37, she was waiting and calling, at 6:38 she took a vole from the nest and flew away

I agree, we were lucky to see Tõnn, Tiiu and the eaglet after the cam went back, or as Urmas wrote: But I'm a bit surprised that juvenile still visits nest and food is brought to the nest (maybe partly)

yitmoth  , thank you for the hint
