But the fledgling......?
Sad, but true. And he/she doesn't even have a name, or at least a number. Since this is the pair's first offspring (or is it? do we know anything about last year's "offline" female?), maybe we could follow the example of some other eagle cams and call the eaglet T01, or something like that. Better than nothing?
7:20:25 Eaglet arrives, with Tõnn right behind. Tõnn drops off a frog and flies off. Eaglet picks up frog but doesn't eat it right away.
7:25 Eaglet nibbling at frog and calling.
7:35 Frog mostly finished, except some bones or whatever that the eaglet doesn't want. Seems there's some other edible stuff in the nest, too.
7:39 Eaglet climbs up the dead branch and calls from there. Soon climbs to the very top, so only legs, tail and wingtips are visible
7:40:43 Eaglet springs from top of dead branch and flies off. Still calling nearby.
Unfortunately we will never know anything about our eaglet when he leave the nest.
In Estonian any chick is "linnupoeg"- "the son of bird". Tõnn´s eaglet now and in the future can be Tõnnipoeg. Not sure if it is suitable if we know for certain that eaglet is female.
14:35 Tiiu brought a big vole , is calling for the eaglet, the eaglet landed and took the vole
14:44 Swallowed the last piece, 14:49 the eaglet flew off
15:40 Another vole by Tiiu , the eaglet came and swallowed it quickly
15:51 The eaglet is still standing on the nest
yitmoth: Great! But what happens when Tõnn has a second child?
Tõnn started breeding in 2016, maybe even in 2015, so he has 3 or 4 offsprings already. Some of them maybe females, so they are Tõnnidaughters. I think this fledgling may be a female because of long development and late fledging.
By the way, the present Tõnnitütar lets us know when she is about to turn in for the night:
8-25-18 - few calls between 20:22 and 20:30
8-26-18 - calls briefly at 19:26
8-27-18 - few calls between 20:09 and 20:18
8-28-18 - few calls at 20:17
8-29-18 - calls softly at 20:06 and 20:15
The nest where she sleeps is somewhere in the vicinity of the nest tree
8:56 The eaglet came home, is moving the sticks on the nest
9:00 Is playing with a big feather
9:03 Flew to the right and landed on the tree out of cam view
10:27 Tiiu brought a big vole , is calling for the eaglet
10:28 Tõnnipoeg landed and swallowed the vole immediately
10:31 Tiiu brought a spruce branch and left, 10:32 another twig by Tiiu
10:35 Tiiu brought a branch again and left
10:40 Tõnnipoeg flew away
