For everyone who has been thinking of us and the beautiful animals in the reserve, thank you for your thoughts. Just a quick story for those of you who may have been worried about the safety of the animals. When it started raining on Monday, I mentioned to Nina that for some reason all the Nyalas and Bushbuck that are usually around camp seemed to have disappeared. The next morning the floods were in full swing and there wasn't a single animal in sight. When the rivers started subsiding and Dale and I took a tentative drive up onto ridge road (our highest road in the area), there they all were - safely on high ground, having made there way there literally hours before the waters actually hit us!! Clever animals!!

I hope the Djuma animals did the same.

The sad news is that for next week more extraordinary rainstorms are expected. Cross your fingers that they will not be as bad as it was on tuesday.

First time online in quite some time! Made it to town despite the road having washed away in 4 places. There has been some severe devestation around me in the Timbavati and Umbabaat but Mopane Grove still stands and IU am high and dry, talking to the odd ele bull that comes my way!

There is not much water left in the waterhole, the hippo's have to go to another waterhole, no animals there now It will take a long time to repair the connection with the cam, therefore they have to go on Marieskop, but because of the damage on the roads they cannot go up there now.

Thank you, dear Rionn for the link. I saw that already a few days ago in Taras Blog. You remember Anton? He was last year as guest on a Safari-drive and showed how to conserve tracks. Lets hope, that Tara gets happy there, a pity we can't see her anymore!

Yes, that is true Britt, although she will keep in touch on Facebook. A restart of the live drives is far away now, and when then it will be certainly not at Djuma I think, maybe at Kapama. But first they will have to repair all the damage of the cyclone.

So Tara and Seb both found a new job. I hope we will hear soon from Marc too. But where he lives in the Timbawati is no signal and internet, so nobody can contact him and vice versa.
