20:25:38 Again H21 leaves the nest quickly and almost silently ... :puzzled:
20:26:27 A somewhat exhausted H44 flutters into the nest and takes over. He has a feather high ... :innocent:

21:07:38 H21 returns to the nest - now for the night.

The change, like the one before, briefly.
The H's are in a hurry to rest.
21:08:07 H44 leaves the nest.

Sleep well!

There is not much difference in the yellow of the eyes but I think that the tone of H21 is a little more alive and that of H44 is paler, darker. Something similar to the green of the tree leaves, shortly after leaving I call it "new green", then it no longer has the same intensity.

I have been reviewing the appearance on camera of the H's. :

The male made an appearance on March 22 and the female "was presented in society" on April 2.

If she started laying eggs on April 17th. Either they have gone very fast or possibly they have been in the area for a long time without the female being seen.

In the days prior to March 22, voices of several different individuals were heard, although there were also adults who may have been setting limits as they were more advanced.

C86 may have more accessibility by being a parent of H44 and they will perfectly recognize each other as parent and child.

Greetings and see you tomorrow.

May 5th

Good morning everyone, Emiliano! :hi:

When the nest is abandoned in late summer, I will also take the time again and review everything and read it up. When you said it, I remembered spontaneously: on March 16, I wrote that there seems to be a Goshawk who seems to like the nest / tree. Without having to visit or care for the nest directly.
However, he was often in the tree, calling ... sometimes only the quiet rustling could be heard. H21 is a 'little' heavier and not as gallant in its movements. I think we would have noticed her presence through her loud movements in the tree. C86 was already busy with his breeding at the time. (Do I remember correctly?) In retrospect, there was no reason for him to concentrate on this nest. So there is a possibility that H44 was already the noticed (unseen) Goshawk at this point in time. At this point there were also many annoying signs for days from the crows trying to drive the Goshawk away. All other adult Goshawk were probably just passing through curiously.

04:47:58 A quiet 'gjak' from H44, it sounds close.
H21 still has the head under the wings.
05:11:35 - 39 H44 calls again from the area, bright.
05:12:40 - 46 too, but closer
05:15:25 - 30 He tries to lure H21 into the day. Although I thought for a moment that he might be a little excited, angry.
H21 is not moving. She just moves her head in the direction of the calls.
05:15:31 H44 is now directly on the nest tree. Both give short, soft tones.
05:16:11 H44 jumps to the lower branch in the pixel area.
05:16:17 then to the nest H21 now gets up, brief handover and she leaves the nest, calls.
"Throw your heart across the river and swim after it."

05:27:18 - 25 H21 calls from the area
05: 41/42 H44 is watching movies. 8-)
Tits jump and chirp through the tree. They don't mind him.

05:44:35 - 39, 49:44 - 50
05:51:30 - 35, 52:12 - 19 H21 calls again

05:55:35 A wing beat can be heard. H44 is listening ... 55:41 H21 can be seen in the background as she flies into the group of trees.
05:55:50 The lap flew quickly and H21 is now announced in front of the entrance.
She stays there, chirps softly and only jumps through the door at 56:32.

Quick change.

06:07:35/36 H21 calls in calls in the area

It's raining heavily.
For the coming week, high temperatures are announced.

07:06:53 H44 lands at the nest.
For a moment it sounds like a chicken coop.

H21 dawdles ... she doesn't think about getting up. H44 tugs at her wing invitingly but lovingly.
Image

H21 is fiddling with its precious conquest a few days ago. She puts the piece of bark and a feather back and forth ... while H44 waits to take over. :whistling:
No, H21 doesn't want to leave the nest.

07:10:12 H44 leaves the nest again.

07:19:50 - 56 H44 to be heard
I think a woodpecker too. The woodpecker sounds a little nervous.

(I can be wrong! I sometimes have difficulty distinguishing woodpecker and Jay vocally.)

07:23:31 H44 lands on the side branch.
He watches the sky, chirps with H21.
Image

07:24:21 He jumps into the nest. New attempt at takeover.

H21 accepts the offer this time.
Image

07:24:44 she leaves the nest, calls. Good to hear now.

H44 doesn't take long ... it quickly lies in a resting position while the birds chirp around. :innocent:

07:42:28 - 32, 43:05 - 08 H21 can be heard in the area.
Blackbird and Jay / Specht also protest.

07:45:28 H21 and a fresh, delicate green twig reach the nest.
H21 has one goal - the branch has to go into the nest. To do this, H44 has to go out.
It's not what it looks like, is it ...? :whistling:

I say this because the male and female have to fly in courtship flights in addition to the possible voices. They are their territorial signals of heat.

I believe that C86 is not very far from this nest and if the female were already laid on the eggs, she would have plenty of time to "visit the family" :innocent: !!!

09: 29: 33/34, '41, '43 H44 sends greetings to the nest
09:29:49 H21 begins to call softly

09:31:13 H21 has already discovered H44 on the approach and makes a sound, H44 answers
09:31:18 He lands in the nest.

This time he stands waiting on the edge of the nest. H21 gets up and accepts the invitation. There are many kisses before she leaves the nest. :innocent:

11:07:01 H21 comes back with a green branch.

She doesn't just slide H44 aside this time - she just puts the branch on top of it. :D

14:56:44 H44 flutters into the nest on its stomach.

Image

Image

The handover is short - an on-the-fly change, so to speak.
14:57:00 H21 is already leaving the nest, calling.

H44 has just over three minutes in the nest. :faint:
15:00:38 H21 sprints back into the nest.

Image

H44 is a bit difficult to get involved in the change and leaves the nest a minute later ... 15:01:37.

Please do not feel corrected. I was just thinking out loud. :dunno:
It was not a counter-argument to your contribution.
The male made an appearance on March 22 and the female "was presented in society" on April 2.
by the way ...I had to laugh here.
That is nicely described.

Yes, it was an exciting moment - probably for all of us, including H44.
It said fifty fifty whether H21 is enthusiastic about H44's proposal. 8-)

18:50 H21 got up from the eggs and is now standing on the edge of the nest.

It stretches, loosens its feathers ... goes back to the nest bowl.
It loosens the nest floor a little here, covers the eggs again.
Shortly afterwards she gets up again, corrects something, and lies down again.

Hm, now everyone is waiting for H44.
I haven't heard it until now either. However, I may have missed it.

20:24 H21 is getting a bit restless. She keeps looking in that direction.

H44 was 5.5 hours away from the nest. If I had at least heard him ...

H21 does not call and does not leave the nest. I think there is no urgency for them to change yet. :innocent:
It's just atypical for H44 for so long without a sign.

Emiliano, could you hear him after the last change? :puzzled:

I now listen again with headphones from 5:30 p.m. at double the speed.
