Exercise - who is who.
18:07:59 - 08:06

:innocent: :loveshower:

Shortly thereafter, both of them a bit away.
Again from 'nowhere'.

The first voice was in the foreground in the afternoon too ... close to the nest. The first defense attorney, so to speak. H44?

Definitely compared to last year, the couple is on the road together, defending and confirming the bond.

I cannot say why there were no signs from Boka and Lujis.

For 2020, the season seemed to be over with fully fledged Juvenile.
Here, with our H's, it's different.

Have a nice evening everyone!

Triple? :puzzled:
I am unfortunately not allowed to delete.

For me in the foreground in the 15 "videos it is H21 and in the background H44. We saw them and sounded (and we did not agree) on the day (19-9-21). Reviewing them and comparing them with those of today that is my answer, I can be wrong but (19-9) when they were on the branch almost together you could see the difference in size and then in the center of the nest, the eyebrow, the tail, the tone of the plumage .... Different tone in my supposed H44, as more metallic, but surely any day the two of them will show up again and we will solve it.

I have to review some sound of the season in the nest to see if I am able to recognize something comparing it with what is now.

It also happened to me about not being able to delete the messages, consulting with the administrator, he passed it on to Bea. It seems that someone has to answer you so that later the X can appear on the panel when you connect. Try it.

Greetings and good afternoon.

your assessment coincides with mine.
At the nest the heavy, pressing call ... removes the lighter one.

A little different from my ideas because I suspected that H44 is the nest discoverer and owner.

Let's look further. :innocent:

October 4th

:hi:

Short sign from the territory of our H's.

I have to admit that I have to rewind. Not long back from work and could have missed important or at least nice interesting notes.
I would be sorry for that.

But what I was very happy to hear:

15:01:00 - 25 Our H21 and H44 together.
Today again pair-like sounds.

Everything does not take place in the immediate vicinity of the nest. But unmistakably removes our H's.

A time before there was a clear call in the field, quite close. No feedback ... think H21. She calls for H44.

We've had that before in the last few days.

Shortly thereafter until 3:02:07 p.m. again similar sounds.

15:03:25 - 34 H21 with mating noises again

she is tricking.

15:08:50 starting: H44 now close with lots of 'gjak'

15:15:45 - 53 still H44?

This jay is fun.
It is interesting to hear how diligently he practices imitating.
In the last few months we have had a lot ... cat, dog, youth calls and other calls of the Goshawk. (I documented with videos) ... now he seems to be practicing pairing sounds from H21.

It seems to focus on its immediate neighbors in the territory. Is it the art of survival, cunning or simply 'speaking' one's nature.

He is incredibly cute! :2thumbsup:

At the moment we are far from losing them. Rather it looks like spring, good autumn can be likened to that spring entrance and I wonder if the pairing is real or just sounds. This will be what awaits us from February if all goes well. We are listening to what we lost with Boka and Luijs (How good are these guys being!)

Yesterday I was in the field close to home in a territory and of course, Nothing. The tree in which it has raised this year is taken as a roost for long-tailed trees (Cyanopica Cyanus), the same thing happened last season.

Yesterday Sunday there was morning activity first thing in the morning from 6:52:40 to 7:22:40 and they will probably continue. There were a variety of sounds although most are ki-ki-ki ending in the gjak. They did not approach the nest ( Are they preparing another? ).

Greetings and good nights.

A good question Emiliano, I like to ignore this fact. Yeah, it doesn't cross my mind but Goshawk do. It is their nature to have multiple nests in one territory.

However, I think that this luxury city - Goshawk will not be able to afford. The territories are too dense and good nesting sites have become too few due to deforestation and little old trees.

It is a problem for all animals anyway - breeding grounds are becoming fewer.
Much due to the sealing of natural resources and the associated gross interference in the food chain.

You sent me timestamps today, thanks a million !!!!! :innocent:
So I already know that one of our H was in the tree today. So the crooked nest will likely continue to be used.
(It's really crooked ... completely used up. I hope the tree is ok. )

October 5th

Let's start.
Thanks again Emiliano for your attention.

I interpret it this way:

10:38 a long way away but H21 can be heard
10:46:52 Jay chatters in the station again.

around 10:47 the calls become clearer but Jay also sounds in between.

10:47:00 - 05 unclear
10:47:05 - 07 H21
10:48: 08/09, 26-28 I think H21
The wind destroys the clear reception of the calls
10:48:57 - 49:04 clear H21
10:49:49 - 52 too

I last heard these tones shortly before the first egg was deposited.
I remember very well. I didn't know these sounds then.
Documented here also with sound recordings.
It was that high-pitched scream followed by begging cries and rapid sounds.

10:52:03 - 07
10:57:46 - 49

Clear H21

Sound recordings cut from 10:46:30 - 10:57:50

10:59:30 - 34 H21
11:01:31 It squeaks
H21

11:02:04 - 08 Gosh ... it really sounds like pairing sounds and it continues.

H21 is very euphoric today.

Well why shouldn't your hormones go crazy? However, I don't think our H's physically mate.
??? Or?
Why not. If it strengthens your bond.
If I may put it that way - it doesn't hurt.

11:03 - 11:09 H21 remains passionate, in weaker winds H44 can also be heard.
Later, however, H21 increasingly changes to begging sounds followed by kikiki.

As I continue to hear and see (a visit to the nest tree will follow) a quick note:

I notice that we have increasingly strong winds.
The weather in Riga and the weather here at home are almost always the same.
Except for temperature. However, wind and precipitation are often the same.

Will we have to struggle more with storms in the future? Tends to be yes.

11:54:30 - 34 Now H44?

Then again the Jay.

13:43:07 The goshawk, probably one of our H's, lands in the upper invisible area of the tree, calls out briefly.

Then he makes it exciting.
No sound ... nothing.

14:03:44 Cracking in the tree.
Change of position?
Loud noises in the tree is often H21.

14:06:55 'Plump' - there it is. Landed on the upper branch.

Sits completely calm, relaxed.
Present the ring only once without showing your identification.

Image

The plumage in the chest area is restless. New.

I once read that young male Goshawk are more broadly striped underneath but I don't find any recognition worth mentioning.

14:24:08 like an arrow very quietly but quickly the Goshawk leaves the branch.
Rushed departure, right?

Moments of arrival, jump on the branch and departure:

to hear more calls:
17:03
18:36

Both calls pretty close.

Nice to see that our H's are showing consistency and are doing well. :innocent:

Found:
It was April 16th when H21 started using this long tone.
Perhaps by chance, but one day before the first egg. :D

Polly wrote: April 16th, 2021, 8:29 am 08:18 The woodpecker is drumming, the Jay croaking, birds are singing ... quiet morning sound
08:18:50 The first crows can be heard and then the wave breaks.
Gosh, what's going on.
08:19:56 in the middle of the crowing, a sound of a goshawk can be heard very gently (even though he's close), like a 'gjak'
Then suddenly it seems to be quiet but let's wait ...Often the crows just spread and lurk silently.

08:23 They jump through branches, croak and rattle
08:23:51 They have spotted something and are chasing after it

08:27:32 - 39
08:28:01 - 06 Clear close calls of the Goshawk

08:29:24 - 28 Goshawk

But listen to the sound in '24! I've never heard this sound like this in a Goshawk!

Once again:
08:30:04 - 10 (in '04)

08:32:34 - 40 Call
08:34:11 - 18 too
"Throw your heart across the river and swim after it."

In your shot at 13:43:06 (1'40 ") the two goshaks appear, one after the other but it is the same. In the camera you can still see that it is only one and not both. Editing thing.

But whoever reads (not just looking at pictures) will have understood the meaning.

Unfortunately, the sound could not be faded out in slow motion (approach of the Goshawk). I only have one easy option for videos.

I found it interesting how long the Goshawk was actually invisible in the tree. Hence the extra documentation of the approach.

Don't be strict with me. :D :2thumbsup:

By the way, both could be heard in the afternoon but the wind is terrible again.
It is difficult to observe.

Maybe tomorrow is a better day (but the camera is still running on me. )
