Emiliano :2thumbsup:

You once asked how the ownership of the nest at Goshawk is cleared ... the female, the male ...

I've been thinking about it a lot just today.
And also read my last entries.

It is noticeable that H21 of all people is often closer to the nest than H44.
Although H21 is less directly present in the nest. It has always been like that.

I have drawn many wrong conclusions from mistakenly assuming that H44 is the discoverer of the nest. Because he simply showed himself first.

However - there were many strong calls in the tree in winter without we ever seeing a Goshawk. It could also have been H21 that lured H44.

And there is no doubt - H21 is a strong young female and she adores H44. Which was so tender and insecure at first.
Maybe many smile at my thoughts, but H21 is really very close to H44.

by the way ... i can understand.

Warm greetings to Spain! I hope you are well. :innocent:

15:25 The H's are communicating.
Unexcited ... dear.

15:27 Their voices are leaving. Apparently they have arranged a date somewhere else.

15: 39/40 A great tit in the nest. Completely confident.
A sign for me - the H's are out of the house and I can now cook in a relaxed manner. :whistling:

That was nothing with cooking in one go.

15:46 Both H's are still chirping at the garden fence (border)

16:11 H21 calls from a great distance.
H44 replies with 'Gjak' from the area.

Well ... it can be okay for couples. :dunno:

16:41 calls outside the fence

16:44:13 H44 reports very close with 'Gjak'

16:45 now a little distant calls

16:51:08 a crow nags its way through the narrower territory. Others can be heard in the distance.
Probably the scout. 8-)

16: 51: 22/23 Departure noises from the tree?

16; 51: 44-46 close calls from a goshawk

Okay ...

I noticed very high numbers in the clicks on this topic.

The forum management is written to.
Until clarification, I am suspending detailed information / reports.

And I hope this area is safe for our goshawk!

It seems that yesterday there has been a lot of activity from the H's and that they are still determined that it is spring. In a couple of months it will be more serious and we hope they continue there.

When the couple is established in a territory (and there are no casualties or abandonments) they do not end up moving away completely, they only expand territory and when the time comes they get closer and are called indistinctly.

If it is a newly formed couple (like this season), when the season arrives the first to arrive calls and we do not know who it was, my opinion is that H44 was born very close to there and it is normal for it to wander around the area and be more Present. H21 had to come in a small dispersion of about 15 km. But it could also be that in the comings and goings of H44 , H21 had crept into the nest area. In principle, H44 has to be more attached to the area because it is certain that she was part of her first movements outside of her own nest.

At the moment they are very present and they are giving us what Boka and Luijs could not do to us at this time.

We have witnessed the formation of a new couple and now their consolidation, which will have to be confirmed from December - January.

Regards and good night.

Good morning everyone, Emiliano!

Yes, it sounds logical if H44 is the 'conqueror' of the nest. I've started rummaging through old posts. I'm looking for something specific, but I won't find the time for it until tomorrow.

October 16th

Meanwhile...

08:33 relaxed call very close out of nowhere. I suspect H21

08:44 now a little more energetic and a few seconds later the H's morning briefing starts.

H44 doesn't really have its say. :whistling:

08: 45/46 scattered everywhere there is gentle, quiet 'Gjak'. :innocent:

08:54 at least one of the H's is still in position.

08:57 The Jay croaks around the nest tree while one of the H's calls out a little further away. He's really fearless.

08:59, 09:02 Calls move towards the garden fence.

09:05 H44 seems to be still present - 'Gjak' still from close up

09:07 H21 answers

09:08 now more distant and energetic. If I hear correctly, a goshawk can be heard farther away. H44 or a third goshawk?

09:10 The calls are getting closer again.

09:12 H44 continues to claim its place ... 'Gjak'. :innocent:

09: 16/17 Relaxation at the H's ... H44 with 'Gjak' and H21 squeaks :2thumbsup:

09:22 While tits and sparrows venture into the nest, our Goshawk chirp to each other within throwing distance.

09:24 H21 very gently and quietly.

I have to move up a bit ... the job is waiting for me

11:25 I hear crows and the drawn out calls of H21. Then H44 with a call.

Everything a little distant and without any fuss.

12:03, 12:28 closer back
Both can be heard.

12:40 - 43 first H44, then also H21 ... short beeps back and forth. Both are now sitting closer, relaxed.

Apparently home office today for our Goshawk couple too.

13:19, 13:27 H44 ... still there? Or again?
A close call, 'Gjak'.
Its type of sound suggests that H21 is also nearby.

Okay, our Jay has to come with us.

14:15 He moans and nods and moans.

It can be heard for a while.

I must be in a hurry now.

Good morning together :hi:

It is almost mild in Riga, currently -1°C. But for the next few days, winter is coming back with a vengeance. Temperatures can fall back to -17°C.

07:39:06 - 11
07:40:43 - 48 Call Goshawk

Both calls from close distance.

07:57:13 'Gjak' ?
07:57:16 /18 Short call, I think also Goshawk

First a good day to you all! :innocent:
It's February 3rd and for me there is no doubt who is chirping in the station. H44! :loveshower:

Since the current stream is not running, I dig last fall. Still looking for who came first.

Emiliano, chaka - you are right!

By the way, there are two voices. Already very loving. However, the second voice only sounds briefly at the beginning and I cannot interpret it clearly without speculation.

For a few days I had noted:

November 19th: there was a strong voice and on the same day Boka probably appeared (in my opinion) with prey in the nest. (both via my videos)

November 30th: Boka appears and pulls the prey out from under the snow (my video)

December 6th: Adult without a ring on the side branch (under tail feathers set up). Head pattern like Boka.

January 24th: Slight adult voice / again with Jay pretty much at the end of my video. It could have been H44.

January 28th: Clear, powerful call on the nest tree. Not one of our H's in my opinion. (via my video)

Then February 3rd ...

I keep digging.

For me and I have already said it several times there was a loss or abandonment (probably Luijs) and Boka eventually left the area because possibly H44 and H21 already felt the crush between them.
With what we know and have learned we can interpret in the past.

Well, the advanced training courses are also canceled today.
No stream available.

I hope the camera hasn't been moved to another location.
The idea existed last year ... .

I will continue to watch the circle today. Perhaps there will be a good documentation on the topic of relaxation.
