Estonian Tawny Owl Webcam 2014

Post by Bea »

Image

We are happy to be able to -hopefully- follow another nesting season with Tawny Owls Klaara and Klaus.

If they decide to return to this nestbox to breed, we can expect a clutch of 2 to 6 eggs.

Incubation time may last between 28 to 30 days.

In 2013 five eggs were laid and two owlets flew out successfully.

Our thanks to Renno to have this cam back!

Egg #1 --> 11. March (Aigar, Ain, Ainar, Innar, Inno)
Egg #2 --> 14. March (Malde, Maldi, Matilde, Meta, Milda, Milde, Tilde)
Egg #3 --> 16. March (Heero, Herbert, Herbi)
Egg #4 --> 19. March (Joosep, Joosu)
Egg #5 --> 22. March (Viktor, Viktoria)
On March, 25th, renno wrote:Klaara started "proper" incubation after laying 3rd egg. During first two eggs Klaara left the eggs up to 4 hours and probably during daytime didnt warm the eggs up to 38-39 C. Owls do it because then first 2-3 chicks hatch in same time or moreless same time. Klaara deviated from this behaviour only in 2010 when she started to hatch after 1st or 2nd egg and all chicks hatched after 1-2 day interval.
Klaara´s eggs incubation time have varied 28-31 days and we can predict first chicks hatching date between 13th and 16th of April. Will see :rolleyes:
