Hi, I love the name Klaara for our little owl. Well, I must say I didnt knew a thing about birds before now...but I´m absolutely IN LOVE with this cute little owl..and very interested in learning about it.
I saw Klaara taking off this evening, so beautiful.
And I have some questions that I hope someone in here will answer
I can understand that eggs will be layed (hopefully) in end of February. But thats soon...how long time is Klaara pregnant before laying eggs? And if there was sign of eggs, wouldnt we see a male too then??
I´ve tried google these informations, but cant find them anywhere..so I hope VERY much for answer in here..
greetings from another Klaara-fan

lovingit,
You are asking some very good questions! (for which I have no answers ...)
From the little bit I have read about birds, an egg can be laid from 1 to several days after mating. It depends on the species - for example, in eagles, up to 7 days after mating. I have no idea about this owl species.
And you are right - I would expect to see a mate with Klaara if she were going to reproduce this year.
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tawny_Owl#cite_note-BTO-2 says:
"Tawny Owls pair off from the age of one year, and stay together in a usually monogamous relationship for life.")
It seems a male might have been seen only one time in this nest. So maybe she will not reproduce this year???

I think and hope it is still a bit early. The owls are starting to look for their partners around this time (they start to hoot more as a part of the process ), se Klaara might still find her mate and lay eggs. We might see little owls yetbociany wrote: lovingit,

thank you for reply
wow, if pregnancy is so short, I must envy birds very much
well, I sure cross fingers for eggs too.
Hmm, camera doesn´t work right now, so I can´t see how Klaara is doing
I saw her late this night, for a short visit, then she flew away again
ohh..I´m turning into an owl-lover

I think it is not particularly concerned about the fee, because the owl would be to choose a nesting...

Another fan of Klaara here!
Glad to see the camera working fine and to hear forest (not yet our girl's) sounds again!
The morning was a bit noisy indeed -- Klaara is in the same position as those of us whose flats look on to a noisy central avenue; still, flats like these are often much desired.

hi fellow owl-fan
What busy day for our owl...there was a visit from a bird. It just happened so quickly, I had no time to recognize it...
anyone who know what lies in buttom of nest??Is it just tree-buttom or does the owl "decorate" nest with grass, leaf, feather for eggs to help keeping them warm at night??

Hello, AllyKass and lovingit! :)
It was a curious tit, I believe -- who then returned, actively flapping his/her wings and even shaking the camera a little...lovingit wrote:...What busy day for our owl...there was a visit from a bird. It just happened so quickly, I had no time to recognize it...

The "pregnancy" might be short, but then she must incubate the egg for a month!lovingit wrote:wow, if pregnancy is so short, I must envy birds very much
well, I sure cross fingers for eggs too.
I found this:
"A pair of Tawny Owls will produce only one brood per year, laying between 2 - 5 egg starting around the beginning to middle of March, with up to a week between each egg. Incubation starts with the first egg, which means that the eggs hatch at different times (incubation period is around 28-30 days). Once hatched, both parents are involved in feeding, until the young are forced to leave at about 2-3 months old. The young are capable of flying from around 5 weeks after hatching."

I also hope for a mate for Klaara and eggs!
