Ural Owls are very new to me - and maybe the night light makes things difficulter for a first identification

Hello! I´am finally back in internet

This visitor was Tawny Owl.. hmm  There is no territory of Tawny Owl but few km away there are one and 1-2 km away have heard Tawny Owl in the autumn. So maybe there will be new territory of Tawny Owl but Ural Owl decide about it.

thank you Renno.

I find that very unfortunate.
I had so hoped it would be a Ural owl in daylight. But I hope that we get them see in the nest box coming days or so.. Although Tawny would be good, but maybe it was searching for a nesting place?

Bea you are right :2thumbsup:

Hi there,

I've been following the Tawny Owl Cam since 2014 and I really love it. And I'm so happy to see that there is also a Ural owl cam this year!

I work for the re-introduction of Ural owls in Austria, so ever since I discovered the amazing webcams here, I wanted to have one for our Ural owls and this year it finally worked out! :) So if you want to check out what a Ural owl in a nestbox looks like, have a look at the page http://www.vebn.at: our female "Frieda" is already sitting on three eggs and "Archimedes" provides her with food. :loveshower:

For further information about the reintroduction have a look at http://www.habichtskauz.at/index.php?ar ... =1&clang=1 or our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Habichtskauz-W ... 4/?fref=ts (the project homepage is available in english too, Facebook is only in german though, but if you have any questions I can always answer them in english!)

I hope for a Ural owl to move in, the latest screenshot looks a lot like one! :hi:

Yes, it's male. In fact this nes tbox looks rather shallow for me. In Latvia we do bigger and deeper variants for Ural Owl. But of course many different nest box's versions are possible.

Thank you for the warm welcome :hi:

I'm really curious if we'll see a tawny owl or a ural owl move in here. If there's a ural owl who wants to claim the nestbox, she'll chase the smaller tawny owl away. Right now I prefer watching "my" Frieda if she ever gets out, so that I can see if we have another egg - but she doesn't move. :puzzled:

I find it amazing that tawny owls in Estonia and in Austria start to breed at about the same time. I would've thought that they would start a bit later further north...

This pair which we see in the Tawny Owl nest box are an early birds. Usually our Tawny and Ural Owls start to lay eggs in the end of March.
