Hello dear eagle friends :hi:

i am a little ignorant of the eagle families, or togetherness around this nest.
When Eve & Eerik brooded, young birds came to visit and neither parent chased them away.
I thought maybe a child of yours from previous years !?
Now 2 different young birds come to the nest
and the younger one brings 2 different adult eagles with him.
Maybe his parents?
First with the ringed one, thought I might be a future partner of the boy?
Once ringed and once unringed.
Please help me if I report something wrong or have observed something !?
Does any of you know how the different eagles belong together,
or is it generally as unclear with everyone here as it is with me?

Thank you for any help and answers.

Hello Sabsy :hi:

I am not expert, but I think the strangers we have seen in this nest are mostly rather random visitors. As far as I know, young eagles wander rather widely around and once they are fully independent they have no particular reason to stay close to their 'birth home'. Also, there is another nest of another couple less than 1 kilometer from 'our' nest, so the eaglets could have originated from their nest as well (if we presumed that the visitors were 'local'). The area is probably very favourable for wte-s, so there are probably many youngsters around. For instance, like one could see from the seal cam.

All the recent visitors in this nest have been rather young, if I remember correctly. So no parent-offspring relationship between them. I think no one knows exactly how couples form (at least those couples where neither of the partners is a widow(er) nest holder, like Milda in Latvia). But the young eagles were probably drawn in this nest by free fish; they were not couples.

This is a common hypothesis or supposition (by non-experts) that if an adult nesting eagle is not directly hostile towards a young visitor, the youngster must be his/her offspring. I suspect that this is rarely true. It can be that we humans have prejudices how a proper eagle should behave, always in the same way, as if they were computer programmes. But the individual variation in character, behaviour, and circumstances is perhaps greater than we realize.

But I may be mistaken. I'm only a cam watcher; I'm not even a hobby ornithologist.

Hello Trine,

Thank you for these informative words.
I have also been observing for many years,
but could not explain it to myself in this nest and in these cases.
But now with your opinion I can let go of that
and stop thinking about it, just enjoy all the eagles I see.

Thank you for the wonderful pictures, comments and videos.

Beautiful evening

They are adorable and fun to watch, indeed.
On the other hand, I'd like to see Eve and Eerik dropping by.

Yes Trine,
I hope with all my heart that Eve & Eerik are healthy and defied the bird flu.

I would have loved to see Anna & Uku again at that time.
I was completely in love with this sea eagle couple and their children.

Thanks again to you and good night
