I am sure parents will return. It was not first time when eaglets were ringed. Haven´t heard that parents abandoned the nest after that.

thank you guys soo much Gitta for capturing and macko481021 for posting these videos!!

i can hear from the video a little what Renno was saying:
the eaglet wing is 35cm, so far the longest has been 33cm, Linda and Sulev have done so well feeding and caring these are the biggest eaglets jey.
Urmas called him while he was up there, and he said he won't pick up..
one of the eaglets seems to be male, other female, but i didn't understand which one was Sulli and which Kluti.
i am surprised at how calm the eaglets were, no claws, no biting, just stood around, a little bickering sounds but that's it. Renno is obviously a professional, really calm and nice with the eaglets!!good work
they are looking a little suspiciously at that blue box of rings, like"are we supposed to change our bracelets if we don't like them??" :P

but all in all, i am so jealous at Renno, he seems to have like one of the coolest jobs in the world. Renno: you feel like giving me a job? :D this looks to be exactly what i would want to do, be so close to the eaglets, and see them up close i bet THAT is an amazing feeling! to see how cute they are and how they looks at new things..

Kenny, have you ever seen how white storks behave during ringing? They pretend to be dead! Very easy job!

no i havent seen storklet ringing yet, but when the ringing of these two "kids" came up, i read some articles articles about bald-eagle eaglets getting leg bands and they wrote that kids can put up quite a fight. i posted the articles here too somewhere. and from the protective and attentive behavior of Sulev i really thought there will be some negotiations before Renno will have the rings on :D
not that i wanted there to be a fight ...no. I am really excited and glad it was so smooth and professional and that eaglets were pretty calm and actually curious about the whole thing. i really am jealous of Renno's job.

Can the parent hunt when it is dark? :help:

Another ask : Did they have any enemy there in the dark? They are all along and are an easy exchange.

From Mutikluti's observations all these weeks, I understand the Parent Eagles are never far away. If we don't see them doesn't mean the are not there. Probably watched the whole process from afar,on another tree, ready to intervene if the eaglets were in any danger.
Thats how I understand the process anyway.I would have hoped they came back this evening ? But,maybe they fly at night?

As far as I know they cannot hunt in the dark, enemy in the dark?? Don't believe
so as long as they stay in their nest, and they are so quiet and sleepy and parents seem to be not far away from them
Suppose and hope tomorrow morning everything will be normal and Linda and Sulev
will go on feeding and so on.
Good night!

actually i listened to the video again and got some words through the wind..
around their right leg they have blue-white and blue ring (representing this year) around their left leg. from the Eagle club home page::
"...All ringed sea eaglets have received a blue-white ring representing the country around their right feet and each year a ring of a different colour combination and denoting the birth year around their left feet"

also i heard him say that the eaglets get rivet? rings because they pluck ordinary ones open. :D

and sorry for the mix up the wing span was 35cm not 37cm...

Thanks for the interpretation, Kenny.

I tried to watch Macko's video, but there is so much buffering that I thought it better to try again tomorrow.

4.17. I have been looking half a hour and S and K is awake. No parent is there and it sounds like it is raining, but it can be the cam-voice.
4.29. Now they lie down but lift their head often.
4.35. They are sleeping. I hope.

that is interesting, kenny, because I have "watched" banding of bald eaglets and they did not fight at all. They are considered to be very docile at the age that the people banded them. And the adults circle overhead, but do not attack the people.

On the other hand, those who band peregrine falcons do so at their own peril!!

Here is an example of banding bald eagles. In Norfolk, Virginia, USA, there are 3 eaglets in one nest. They were banded on April 22.

Here is a link to a TV news story about the banding:
http://www.wvec.com/video/index.html?nvid=354323

and then on May 20, people went back into the nest and put a transmitter on one of the eaglets!

(I can give you a lot more pictures and links, if you want)
