Abigyl, all given names are gender-free. I think it would be polite to use "Taibu" as it was agreed and has certain meaning.

I had a bad experience with the eaglet of last year; they changed his/her name after long time (changed the last letter), and I didn't won't a replay this season too.

So I changed the last letter to make it sound better for a big female like her. :D
Nice ! Good explanation :2thumbsup:

Still, it would be completely unnecessary to change the name that Mutikluti originally gave. The idea behind the name would be lost.

For me the name Taibu that Mutikluti originally gave is a very nice Estonian name and it is very naive to assume that adding an "A" at the end of the word would denote feminine gender in all languages of the world. :puzzled:

Trine wrote:Well, it was a Latvian case last year, and that makes a difference. They have a different (more strict, I guess) name tradition/policy. Also, "Taibu" has a specific meaning in Estonian (colloquial), while "Taiba" has not. No one would call a smart girl "taiba" (and if someone would he/she would not be understood).
But it is not a big deal.
Nouns and pronouns do not have grammatical gender in Estonian language while Latvian language has two grammatical genders (masculine and feminine).
Changing Taibu to Taiba doesn't make any sense.

A lot of eating takes place under the nest tree. A real dinner -feast for anyone that likes fish.
One can clearly hear the sound of cracking branches..
Badger? No. Their weight is between 10-15 kg (maybe a little bit more). Racoon dogs? around 10 kg. they dont crack branches.
My guess is wild-boars - weight up to (and even moore) 100 kg.. And they are oppoturnists: they eats everything!
Nature is often cruel and ruthless, but always with a purpose (hard to see sometimes though...).
But no way near the cruelty of humans..!

Absolutely. And the name is really beautiful.

Also I find it rather arrogant and impolite to change an official name because that name does not, for
personal reasons, please that person and use it in an open Forum.

Just my 2 cts.

In Finland we have that sayings slightly different version: "A Beloved child has many names".

We also like the name Taibu and will continue calling her that.
But don't mind, if someone wants to call her Taiba, every one of us will know who it is.

Taibu is Taibu :loveshower:

In Finnish (and Estonian, too) are no feminine, masculine or neuter words at all and no articles at all, no genders. This is impossible grammaticaly. Taibu cannot be Taiba. Our languages are Finno-Ugric languages and they are very, very different from other languages.

Taibu is Estonian clever. :loveshower:

Good morning! :hi:

This Tuesday should be quite a nice day in Haapsalu region: temperature about 15-20 degrees, mostly sunshine and not much rain. Quite windy, though: wind speed 5-8 m/s.

04:00 The stream was on. Taibu is alone in the nest tree and at least one of the boys is in the trees on the right side.
Starting at 04:29:40 there sounded to be a short feeding on the right, or at least the eaglets there saw a parent. I did not see anyone fly there.
04:50 Taibu moved from the parents’ branch to the left branch, which doesn’t swing as much in the wind.
