Re: Estonian white-tailed sea eagle nest camera 2018
Good evening everybody!
(Hi sova! )
It's not a nice question, but was not it a surprise that Sulev was even seen? Or am I wrong?
In some threads you can see portraits of the birds at the beginning. About age, origin etc. Not here, unfortunately. But I can remember that Sulev is already an older eagle and maybe he just pulled back and is not interested in a new breed?
Maybe the young sea eagle that was last sighted became a new prospect?

Good morning to all
Hello Polly...nice to see you again
Yes, Sulev already has a certain age (if Sulev is).
Here you can see that Sulev already had a nest in 2009
https://www.looduskalender.ee/forum/viewforum.php?f=18
I do not think he would retire. They do not retire. I think they just die. But that's just my opinion. Ame could explain that better.
The young eagle that was here would be too young.
We hope a little bit ....

I do not want to advertise for another nest but I want to show you something.
Our Suvi has such beautiful dark eyes (I am fascinated).
Here a female from the nest's Hungarian and she has very light eyes
Suvi (14.02.)
Female from Hungarian nest (22.09.)
(16.10)
But she must be older than our Suvi

The eagle was not alone.
He first flew a loop, then came to nest and over her flew another eagle.
Ringed Eagle just looked ... I think they belong together.

great, sova you got him/her.
i had seen a shadow, but then that frame/s (with the tail feathers) of that moment in the transmission lacks for me - and i thought: must have been one of the WtE's best buddy, a raven or a crow

Hi Sova! Thank you for the pictures. Suvi has really very unique dark eyes, something i have not noticed even in younger eagles from the pictures. Her eyes seem to be completely darkish. Our button eyed beauty :)sova wrote: ↑October 18th, 2018, 10:09 am I do not want to advertise for another nest but I want to show you something.

i have had so much other things to do that i had no time to make a thorough introduction to this topic. i was hoping that someone else might make new pictures of Sulev and pictures of Suvi (and later Sulvi) which i could use later...
fortunately the Photobucket has started to show again the old pictures (at least for the time being. i don't expect that to last long...). they can be found in the old Saunja topic.
i think Sova is right: Sulev will not retire from breeding.
... in fact i don't remember of reading or hearing of any species where the male would retire from breeding. male's don't have that kind of menopause. only female humans and some other primates, some whales and elephant females are known to have menopause. a more comprehensive list here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menopause#Other_animals
in those species also grandmothers play a role in breeding success of heir offspring.

That double vision picture will not be good for observing, causing problems to see any details :(
