Re: Black Stork Nest in Karula, 2021
Hello @Tatiana60 and @Heloise
Many thanks for the beautiful pictures, video and comments. That was a great day in the nest today!
Feedings:
07:50 Karl II
08:49 Karl II
09:27 Kaia
10:19 Karl II
11:29 Karl II
14:04 Karl II
15:53 Karl II
18:06 Karl II
18:13 Kaia
Today 9 feedings could be observed.
At times there was so much food that the chicks lost food from their beak because the crop was full.
Good night!

Good evening.
Swenja, Tatiana and Heloise, thank you very much for all your great work and for the beautiful photos, videos and comments.
What a joy to read this!
Karl II brought an incredible amount of fish today.
For a moment I thought he might be visiting a fish farm.
So I took a look in OrniTrack to see where he found so many fish today.
OrniTrack INFORMATION
Karl II spent last night near a stream that flows into a small lake about 10 km from the nest.
The food he brings at 07:50 has been caught in that area.
Next I see Karl II fishing at two different locations:
1. 3x on a small brook not far from the nest (about 2.5 km).
(feeding 08:49; feeding 10:19; feeding 11:29)
He frequently visited that place when the chicks were still small.
2. 3x on a slightly wider brook, about 10 km from the nest.
(feeding 14:04; feeding 15:53; feeding 18:06)
He has been there a few times in the past, but not very often.
Between 18:06 and 20:12 Karl II stayed in the immediate vicinity of the nest.
The storklets must have seen him!
Swenja, yes, maybe Karl II and Kaia had a date!
Heaven knows what they had to discuss. Raising children requires negotiation, of course. :-)
Then Karl II flew to a small clearing in the forest, about 650 metres from the nest.
He is still there at 22:37 (last known data), on the edge of that open space in the forest, sleeping in a tree.
Today, Karl II flew 111 km.
Sleep well, everyone

Heloise, Anne, Swenja, Tatiana
thank you again for the reliable reporting, beautiful pictures, videos, important and very helpful track data and yes, everything you all are diligently doing here for us
It fills my heart with great joy to see how wonderful the storklets are being taken care and develop best way.
I'd like to add two portraits of our (my ) sweet little darling T
i took them today, 11:26, and had put them in the 'suggesting names' thread:
isn't s/he a sweet little darling ? i think s/he will have the same most beautiful eyes like Karl II
there is already something surprisingly 'wise' in his/her eyes
oh, don't get me wrong, i mean all three are very handsome and lovable - each in his own way

Hello, thank you so much, balistar and Anne7!
Karl II's behavior today was very interesting, and researching the track data explains so much!
So much fish
About 8 pm... the storklets tried to get attention and food (which they didn't need) and at the same time show their father how well they could exercise.
They were not really anxious.
Yes, and Karl II called Kaia and they had a date, I agree
Balistar, I understand!
I added mostly pictures of the U today, because s/he was so often in the foreground.
I love them all

It's been a while since I checked in on the three nests of storklets... all 10 of them seem to be growing like weeds. I loved the one picture earlier of all the storklets with their heads cocked in the same pose.

Good Morning!
Thank you @ Anne7 for the track data
Karl II wasn't far away yesterday because of the food. It just flew back and forth a lot. It is a good thing that the chicks now have particularly good food to prepare for the journey south. But now they have to take off and fly first.
05:48 and 07:21 U is already making a slightly hovering hopping motion.
U stay here! It is not yet the time to leave the nest.

Good morning!
Hello Swenja and Heloise, many thanks!
Balistar, thank you too!
Yes, T is a very sweet storklet.
All three are wonderful!
Icechips
Today, the two older storklets are 59 days old. The youngest one is 57 days old.

Huvitavad ajad tulekul.
A peaceful nest life is taking place in front of the Karula webcam. Kaia and Karl II's three chicks turn two months old today (the youngest storklet is two days younger). The parents have been taking good care of their food - nine feedings yesterday, and the young birds were stuffed afterwards edit: had enough food. (thanks Heloise!)
Wing- and jumping exercises are performed on the nest.
We may expect to see the first storklet to fledge as early as this week.
Interesting times ahead!
Heloise, I hope I didn't make too many mistakes in the translation. Please feel free to correct if needed.
For your information, here is the overview I made of all storklets (born and fledged) on this nest in previous years.
2016 - 2018: Karl I & Kati
2019: Karl II & Kati
2020: Karl II and Kaia - 2 eggs, no chicks
