 @Heloise

I removed it too and saw that you did the same. Then I set the picture again.

10:27 Karl II is now 16 hours in the nest. It is hot in the sun.

10:35:12 Kaia is here :D

10:35:24 Karl II flies away. That was fast. 12 seconds!

Now I wonder how flexible Karl II is!

Oops! I was dealing with Karl II´s "flexible pictures" and didn't see Kaia coming!
:faint:
And I didn't even realize that Kaia was in the nest instead of Karl II!
:rotf:
I have to take a break!

EDIT: Karl II watched Kaia fly into the nest, he turned his head all the time. It seemed that Kaia flew around, made a circle and then finally landed on the nest, coming from the right 8-)
She came:

It happened so quickly that it was difficult for me to keep up. Almost missed Karl II's departure.

Beautiful Kaia

Her shadow is also nice 8-)

Image

She doesn't seem to notice that she steps on an egg or touches it...

+21C... it's hot for a stork to sit in one place, not moving at all, and even in a black tailcoat...
The wind sometimes gets into the nest, but today it is somewhere on the tops of the pines.... and Kaia doesn't have a fan...
soon the sun will be in the southwest of the nest and it will become cooler...

This morning went the 18th day from the appearance of the 1st egg...

Hello Tatiana60! :hi:
At the moment (13:42) in Karula: +23
This is, of course, today's maximum temperature.

Thank you @Heloise and @Tatiana60

I imagine it to be really hot in the sun with the black plumage. The wind is good.

14:21 steps. Kaia stands up and looks. Sounds like deer?

18:30 Kaia is still patiently incubating.

Karl II will arrive soon, I hope.

balistar wrote: May 10th, 2021, 11:06 pm In view of Karl II's long excursion, another thought occurred to me:
What if Karl II, in view of the 4 eggs, is so intelligent that, as a precaution, he explores the surrounding area for possible further food sources, in case there should come a bottleneck in the hot summer weeks in the vicinity, where mainly his food sources are ?
After everything we have seen of our wonderful Karl II so far, i would trust him to do so.
But it is only a thought, not more :D
I think that is quite possible, Balistar.
Karl II is indeed a very clever bird.
In 2019, when the storklets on other nests died of starvation, Karl II still managed to bring enough food to his nest...
Presumably he had to fly to many different places to do so, some also further away. He must have known those places in advance, I think.

But as always, it is almost impossible to detect (or prove) the conscious intentions of a bird...
We can only guess why they do 'this' or 'that'.

19:00 Still no Karl II :puzzled:

Can someone tell me whether the sound and picture are offset in the live stream?
I don't know if my PC is the only one having this problem or if the live stream is faulty. It's out of sync.

The same problem here, Swenja. :hi:
It's not just on your PC.

Thank you very much @ Anne7
I can not do anything about that. I wanted to get the hammer out ... :bash:

Karl II takes the time he needs today. Kaia does it that way too. She often shakes her head today.
Kaia shakes out feathers.

The warm weather will probably have encouraged flies and perhaps also mosquitoes.

Don't use a hammer, Swenja, they only very rarely solve PC problems. :D

Anne7, thank you!

Poor Kaia, her leg must be "dead"... she rests on her wing when she gets up
