The probability of the fourth egg is very high and that is not bad. No Kati - no elimination.

bonehead wrote: April 12th, 2021, 12:01 pm Hi! So nice that Karl II is safely back.

Dear Karl II please pick this year a nice expierenced lady, who will lay 2 eggs or if the food conditions are very very good max 3 eggs. that´s because we will not wont any extra drama on this nest this year. Thanks in advance Karl, if you listened me  .

That was a human wish, but in reality nature works it´s own ways and thats a fact we humans must accept, even if it sometimes is very hard.

We wish all the best luck to you Karl II  !
Please Karl II read and remember this! This year seems already to be a year of drama (cf. WTE Milda and GE Helju).

07: 51 Kaiа gets up from the masonry, straightens the moss, and at the same moment sits down again.
08: 41 she gets up, shakes off his feathers, straightens his moss. The bright sun has risen-it welcomes the new day and the third egg in our clutch.
08: 42 Kaia sits down.
09: 03 gets up, loosens, removes small twigs from the center of the nest,
09: 05 sits down
09: 21: 27 she is completely relaxed, closed her eyes, dozing.
09: 21: 58 she clearly hears something, turns her head, looks at the forest and the sky
09: 22 startled looks down to the left of the nest, raises the feathers on the neck, turns his head... Karl II flies into the nest on the right.

Our little Princess is in the nest, makes the nest for eggs more pleasant. She's been in the nest since Karl II left.

I hope they will have good luck with the eggs and the chicks this year!

I am also afraid of too many eggs. If there is not enough food, the parents will eliminate the weak ones from the nest. We have seen that.

Hello pirkkokn :hi:
Yes, we have seen that. Kati knew that it was a ‘necessary’ measure, if there is not enough food available.
I don't know if Karl II or Kaia would have the courage to remove a chick if they had to.
From what we’ve seen in 2019, I suspect that father Karl would continue to try to feed them all, and even pay extra attention to the smallest one(s). (In 2019, he paid a lot of extra attention to the 4th chick, as if he was doing his best to give the youngest one enough to eat as well.) And our little Kaia? She has no experience at all. Who knows how she would react to a food shortage?

We can only hope that there will be adequate food this year.
If there will be a food shortage, the most sensible decision would most likely be to eliminate a chick.
That way, the remaining chicks will at least have a chance to survive.
If the parents fail to act, the chances are high that all the chicks will starve to death (or be too weak and skinny to cope with their first migration). That would be worse.

But let’s remain optimistic and see what happens.
