Hello all night owls (like me)!
01:01 - 01:09 Something is happening near the nest, Jan got another fright! Strange thumping sounds, rustling noise, branches cracking and falling - like a larger animal "working" on something. Jan is highly alert but does not get up. He looks to the right and towards the tree trunk. Jan sits alert, with a straight neck, for a long time after.
I wonder if it was an elk or a wild boar on the ground below the nest? If the microphone is very sensitive it surely would pick that up? It was very loud und sounded very near.
01:02
01:03
01:30 Jan gets up for a short nest routine and looks more relaxed now.
01:42 aerating the nest
02:18 aerating the nest, rolling eggs. I can see 2 eggs with pips.

“Animals, like us, are living souls. They are not things. They are not objects. Neither are they human. Yet they mourn. They love. They dance. They suffer. They know the peaks and chasms of being.” (G. Kowalski) Caveat: Apart from this remarkable sentence I do not agree with his philosophies.

15.21 - 15.23 Aerating
15.35- 15.37 PS, aerating, egg talk, rolling.
16.10 Feeding. The food was far away and Janika ate it back quickly. The biggest chick ate a lot, the others got some bites as well?
16.48 Janika rolls the egg, Ps, aerating.
16.50 Feeding. 1 and 2 ate. By the time 3rd chick got to the front, food was already gone. 1 and 2 are full.
16.52 Janika covers the chicks and the egg.
17.00 Aerating.
17.01 Nr 3 is biting its older sibling. Janika is preening.
17.05 Janika is arranging material and covers the little ones.
I can already see myself struggling to tell difference between the chicks. They are all quite similar to me. When I say 1,2 or 3, I'm not actually sure if it's the right birth order...i'm sorry in advance.

At about 18:14-18:15 the fourth egg was rolled and it seemed to have at least two black spots on it - maybe a bigger crack
Managed to get just a couple of poor pics
The egg in front of the chicks
