Re: Black Stork Nest in Karula - 2016
I am not very good in identifying the parent birds - but if there was a chance to trap Kati as a female .... there are efforts to find out why the mortality of the female BS is higher than at the males.
Just think about it - the moment is chosen right now ..... storklets are big enough to come over a time without food and they are short before fledging. Parents will still have the urge to return to the nest to feed the storklets. But once they have fledged, they will roam around more.
Trapping an adult is surely more difficult then, if not impossible.

I think, it is Kati.
So could it be, that Karl also will ringed. I have him not seen since two days. Kati was absent already earlier.

Most important that a parent has been on the nest and fed Kulla and Kalli.
Now we patiently await news from Urmas or his colleagues.

I am curious about this, too.
Many surprises can happen at such an event - the "wrong" bird could be in the trap, the "right" bird could be in, or none of them. Or both? One after the other?
In case it was the intention to trap Kati, as the female, and it would have been Karl in the trap, they may have taken the chance to place a transmitter on him, too. And in a second try getting Kati in the trap?
But these are all only imagined sequences of events .....

Yes, but it makes a forum more interesting, or not?Bea wrote: I am curious about this, too.

Whoa! Missing Kati finally at the nest!
She was meanwhile in jewellery for the ring - that is the reason why she was not here for a some time. She could not decide which one ring to choose...

I don't think that the storklets are now too happy after 60 hours without food. They look thin and weak.

It so good to see that all is well with our storklets.
I am sure, it´s Kati. In watchers point of view it would be interesting if Karl got transmitter too.
So, what happened in the night? Who brought the food?
Version 1.
Sure after trapping parent(s) was afraid(a bit shocked) to come to the nest at daytime but there was so much food gathered that she had to come and give it to storklets. Safer at night. As nothing happened anymore, she was brave enough to come again during the day.
Version 2
One human, whom we know, who was responsible of trapping, felt quilty and brought food to the nest in the middle of the night. Then here are some questions. Where he got so much different fishes? Why storklets are still on the nest(they should escape), why Kati came back after 2 days?
Don´t take version nr.2 seriously, I am joking.
