Re: Black Stork Nest in Karula 2019
Karl came and Kati comes always from the right side, I wonder why Karl II often prefers the left side. He should remember that landing from there has not been always successful. And besides he startles the kids as this is the stranger's side.

Hello, everyone.
23:37:32 During a flash of lightning.
I hope that the third storklet is hidden behind the two others.
Most probably it is.
It rains. Poor storklets.

04:08 All three storklets are there!
They look quite unhappy. They are wet (only a bit) and cuddle together.
Surely it's very frightening to experience the first thunderstorm.
A good catch, Anne, a rare picture. Thank you! And many thanks to all for todays reports and pictures.

22:03 They were afraid of thunder and lightning.
2:07 still thunder and strong rain
2:36 It sounds less rain, but I hear still thunder
2:44 still thunder
3:11 thunder from far. Early birds are singing. That was an exhausting night for the storklets

Hello, everyone
There are a lot of gaps in the streaming.
It looks as if there has been a feeding.
11:45 Here it looks as if the storklets look for leftovers.
12:15 These crops look rather well filled and happy, I think.

Assuming the curved branch has not changed location, I have made a little comparison.
The camera is approximately 5.5° to 6° tilted to the right since April 8th.
(When a cam is rotated to the right, the horizon in the picture is inclined to the left. To get the image straight, it must be rotated to the right.)
April 8th
June 11th
The view of June 11th, 5.5° rotated to the right (= clockwise)
After "correction", the nest looks reassuring.

Hello everyone,
many thanks, Liz, for the early morning report and those pics from last night! The video of the beginning of the thunderstorm is very interesting. The storklets were so afraid of the thunder that they spread their wings and even growled! Poor things.
Anne, thanks a lot for your work with the angle of cam view!
15:20 The cam is offline.

Dear users of this forum, admins and moderators, I greet you from Germany! Its my first post here, I was watching the Katie - Karl II stream already some weeks. My whole life I always was interested in birdwatching.
This growling and clapping the wings by the two little storklets during the thunderstorm yesterday I watched with interest, I never thought they could produce such a sound. I re-watched it really many times.
Then I remembered this: When I was trying to find out whether a bird box in our garden was occupied I was lightly knocking on it, and I heard a hissing and growling so loud that I thought a pretty angry mammal was just upon to get me. Till this day I wonder if this was just a blue tit inside sitting on her eggs, or if it really was a little mammal. I nearly fell off the tree hearing this angry sound, so stunned I was, I didn' t see anyone coming out the hole, it was just this sound and then silence. I went on a long holiday days later, so I couldn' t find out anything.
Are there some bird specialists who could help me in this case ? Can birds growl like that when they are afraid as a kind of defense making them more dangerous as they really are ?

Hello Raven, welcome to the forum!
In the forum are indeed some bird specialists who maybe can help to answer your question.
Unfortunately I don't know if such small birds like tits or others can make comparable sounds like our storklets. Hard to imagine. Good that you're not fallen from the tree when you heard that unexpected noise.

20:25 The camera is still offline, meanwhile the whole afternoon and early evening.
Hopefully the stream comes back soon.

Thanks Katerina: Incredible stress for the young chicks this visit from a not identified male stork was. First they growled, then they stress -beeped.
Thanks Michi ! I admit my hands were trembling, I was telling the animal inside "OK, OK, I am sorry, I leave, calm down!" Normally blue tits nest in this box. This crazy sound I remember as "mrrmpf - ta ! mrrmpf - ta ! mrrrmpf -ta!" totally different from every sound I ever heard of a black or blue tit.
