Human thoughts. It looked as if he had decided to leave the nest for good.

Thanks, Liz. Beautiful storklet and beautiful flight. Does Aru know how much we love him and wish him all the best? Of course, to the whole family but he is "our problem child" at the moment. :innocent:

yitmoth wrote: August 13th, 2019, 3:13 pm Not to change the topic (I'm worried about Aru's wing, like everybody else), but here's another thing. Aru is already being shown on the birdmap, though obviously without a migration path yet. But doesn't this give away the nest location? I always thought that was to be avoided -- and with good reason.
the starting point is prudently put in the wrong place.

Hello everyone,

I want to thank you all for the reports, your thoughts and pictures. :2thumbsup:

I agree with Liz concerning Arus difficulties to start the big flight. If he would be able to fly long distances he would do it.
I see also Arus urge to fly. But the fact that he always returns quite quick, is - for me - an argument or a proof, that he feels not able to fly longer times.

.
- if storklets are out from nest, are they really away or only on the nearby branches (only out from camera view)?
- my experiencies say (observing more BS streams) probably the fly not long distances (Urmas know the answer thanks data from telemetry device) :puzzled:

once again:
Solo wrote: August 12th, 2019, 3:31 pmI am not worried about departure our Aru to big journey
- there are still differences, usually storklets did not leave the nest the same day

this nest:
2018:
Maru - 04.08.2018, 2018, Karula - 16.08.2018, Päike - 18.08.2018
2017:
Uno - August 12, Tali - August 17, Usin - August 17
2016:
Kulla -2016-07-30, Kalli - 2016-08-05
Kulla - Kalli: 2 healthy storklets and 5 day difference

Good point, Solo. For now, Aru is not late.
We still have a while until the record date (August 18).

The season starts at different times. we should count the days they were at the nest.
And most of all, none of the storklets stayed in the nest all day.

The day they leave the nest is different. Usually in dependent to food and how many chicks are in the nest. There were only two chicks in this nest for a long time. Theoretically, they fly the sooner the fewer chicks are in the nest and the more food there.

:hi: Michi,
exactly what i think and wanted to say, too. You can express with much better English

Thanks, Liz, for the latest pictures of the wing - and of the feeding.

I'm so impressed and proud of wonderful Karl II - he will not leave his child as long as Aru needs him. This brings tears (of being touched) to my eyes.

Thank you for the pictures, Liz. In the last one the wound is very good to see. I think with this wing it is hardly possible to reach the wintering places. Is it imaginable that Aru could fly 6000 km with it? It might be much too arduous and would cost him all energy.
I feel very sorry for Aru.

Balistar :hi: Your English is very good and you can express yourself always quite well. :D

We are all getting wound up and worried more and more with each day.
Ultimately, what matters: what does Urmas and team say?
Does anyone know?

yes

Liz, I pointed out the differences between siblings when leaving the nest (2016: Kulla - Kalli: 2 healthy storklets and 5 day difference)
(and that fact - if they are out of camera view we havent infos if they are near or far from nest)
