Given that I think Voles are very important to them and this is a very bad year for them, -- at least Olga has told us about birds starving in Finland -- I have been wondering.

They have definitely mated but there have been no eggs.

An eagle was on the nest and was cslling just now - I have not seen one at all before.

Sorry - calling, not cslling! More haste, less speed, as they say. I thought it looked fairly small and grey-ish, but I am not familiar with these birds. We don't have them wild in the UK.

there's a LSE at the BS nest!! making itself at home!

It`s someone at home here. I wonder of she is planing to spend the night there.

Now we only have to see the LSE here and on the BS nest to know if they are definately a seperate couple.
(though Caysa did mention ringed birds over there.)

On Kotkaklubi's website Urmas and his colleagues write that eggs are laid at end of April/beginning of May; again, Tiit Randla's book from 1976 has a slightly later period, second decade of May (May 10-20?). Global warming?
Kotkaklubi also writes about a 3-year-cycle in successful nesting, depending on the number of voles to catch.
The eagles seem quite happy to build nests anyway. And lay eggs too. A bit surprising, nature doesn't much like waste of energy?

Liis, maybe this nest building behaviour is part habit (we always build nests at this time) and part reasoned optimism - after all, they have mated.

Eha and Koit were in their nest this morning, at the same time as the other couple in BS nest.

Sorry, I couldn't show this recording earlier (I had to leave).
It's worth noting that both eagles visit their nest from time to time. On May 5, they arrived early afternoon. Perhaps the egg will appear at last.

Maybe not right this moment, but prepairing? She is very quiet and not moving. We'll see....

She has remained in the same position for 20 minutes now. That is unusual - these are restless birds, normally.

Departed at 18.36. Empty nest bowl.

Well she left, without covering something, so: still an empty nest. Now I hear some shooting going on.
