Jays do like cones, so the one who visits this nest will be very grateful to Urmas.

Hello everybody, LSE lovers, can I ask one (probably) very stupid question?
Why did Urmas put those Pine cones into the nest? :puzzled:

For the Jay! :rotf: Adult eagles don't eat cones and jays like them.

Danielle, I guess "just like that". For the eagles they have no use - yet, on the other LSE nest we had the eaglet play "hunt" with them.
I don't know if jays will come to get them, though.

I take them for an indicator for any kind of movements on the nest.

Jays, woodpeckers, squirrels: anyone who sees those cones first will take them away.

I agree with you, Bea.
On the other hand I wonder if there are any seeds to find for jays or other comrades - the cones seem to be so open and dryish ...

Lucy :hi: I think it's a male, chaffinch:)

I hear a blackbird singing pretty close to the nest. I'm thinking it will be another yelling bird, who will feel threatened by Eha and Koit, and for a very good reason

No cam, at least not for me, this evening
