Maia was scratching her face, accidentally hitting # 1 several times on the head. Could not help thinking: "right, that's how it feels" (only joking :innocent: )
By the way, I have not seen Magnus bringing food for quite a long time.... Last time at 2 in the afternoon, if I am correct?

19. June

Good morning, and thank you for yesterday`s reports

06:35 - Feeding. The old chick was giving the youngest a hard time, so I could not watch for long

I wish you all a nice day

Good day all. Just logged in, and right now Maia is blocking the view, but earlier there were fierce attacks at the smaller one.
Retari, you better not watch today, it is painful to see. I'm leaving too. Have a good day everyone, be back tomorrow.

P.S. forgot to mention there is no shortage of food: Magnus brought a large dark rodent and a smaller light grey one.

Hello everyone!
I also can only look at it for a few moments.
I've briefly watched around 6:35. The big chick was fed:
got a few chunks, chopped the smaller one, got a few chunks, chopped the smaller one, got a few chunks, chopped the smaller one,
... then made a pause swallowing (i think it was already very filled up).
Now the smaller got a few chunks while getting hard hits at his back at the same time.
The bigger one was ready for more food: got a few chunks, chopped the smaller one, got a few chunks, chopped the smaller one, got a few chunks, chopped the smaller one,...
It looks like it is training, beat a prey.

Please stop it. your brother/sister feels pain like you, and on top of that:
this chick important to save your species.
Because Maia fed them very patiently and long, Abel got something.
i noticed in other nests, the female often stopped offer feed, when the elder was filled up and the other one began to beg.

:hi:

thank you for reporting and pictures :2thumbsup:

16:10 the bigger one attacks the smaller one since 5 minutes.
He will stop when he has finished what his genes tell him. It is better if the little one does not have to suffer too long.
Mom is preening herself.. is standing on the nest edge

16:11 the bigger continues

It is very late.. but I did two video. It is interesting

10:20:34 the little one is visible in it's egg

12:20 The little one has hatched. Head is still a bit wet

It is very interesting to see the difference between the harmonious feeding of three chicks in Osprey no 2 where the smaller one gets a fair share although with some waiting time while the older siblings get saturated whilst in LSE with two chicks the mother is totally indifferent when no. one is cruelly punishing the younger chick. I give it max two days until there will be only a Cain left. (heartbreaking process to watch for a father of three, well nourished-but not pampered...)

it is genetic, to start the elimination. Abel will not have peace, until the chick is dead.
But experts consider it possible this species is on the way to a one egg clutch.
Already before decades it was observed that not necessarily the older one is the more aggressive one.

Warmly welcome to the forum, akle.
