the cam is back online, yippee!!
there is a bit less snow on the nest than in the morning. it's been a bit warmer out there.
here in Turku (maybe some 30 km away from Nauvo directly) it's -1 degrees and it has been snowing more half of the day...

It's spring! The snow is melting on the ice in the Archipelago. A hooded crow on the Seili Osprey nest:
Bociany, I'm not sure but if there will be a new tread for this season, it could be better if both, the Seili nest and Hailuoto nest, have an own topic. But we will see how lively the discussions are. Seili nest is in South and Hailuoto is in North, about 700 km from Seli..

there was rather heavy snowfall (about 5 - 10 cm) here in SW-Finland yesterday evening and last night, just like in Estonia. fresh shiny-white snow covers the ice and the nest. it's zero degrees but in sunny spots and in the city the snow is melting, but not efficiently: the white snow reflects most of the warmth of the sunshine.

OMG the ospreys are here alreaDy!! anD i DiDn't notice. our local newspaper tells that the male arriveD on 8th anD the Female on 9th (says the husbanD who thinks he remembers what he reaD in the paper in the pub... ). i openeD the cam anD there was an osprey sitting in the nest! there's a huge bunch of new logs that have been brought there....
oh but now i see that you Ploughboy have alreaDy posteD pictures anD a viDeo of the arrival! gooD that at least one of us is watching!
i was thinking the same as macDoum that the ospreys can't come here before open water, but i suppose there is enough of it on the shore lines. anyways: they are back!!!

I use following programs to make movies:
1. Image captures: MVSnap (manually)
2. Movie maker: Picasa3 http://picasa.google.com/
3. Audio: Youtube AudioSwap (Youtubes functionality)
Easy as haymaking

.. so it was not quite simple to make the viDeo (haymaking shoulD be easy for a ploughboy! )... i'm looking for something even easier.. anD especially not so laborious, like maximum of two stages: recorDing anD uploaDing in the Youtube. i tried to make the VLC-player show the Nauvo-cam but DiDn't succeeD.

at 20:11 (8.11 pm) another landed. look at those legs!
this posture gives a hint of what is going on, i think...

but this following picture i Don't unDerstanD at all: a threesome?!??
i have no recollection of what i saw on the screen because i was so concentrateD in trying to remember how to save pictures from this camera (i have a sort of a shortcut to Do it but it's almost a year since i've really Done it so technique was a bit rusty...) coulD this be a combination of two consecutive pictures?...
anyways, afterwarDs the male brings a present for the laDy.
the nest looks quite Different now. it has haD changeover During the past week: a huge amount of new, big branches have been brought here, anD more are coming!

the lady osprey is sitting on the right corner. she's got a lovely hair-do.
then it seems that the male makes his suggestion by pressing himself low and spreading his wings, with his back turned towards the female.
then up he goes on the female's back.
do male ospreys have penises? it looks like there's something under his tail, or is it only dark feathers? - some waterbirds have penises, but i don't think ospreys are 'waterbirds' in that sense even though they eat fish, are they?
and it doesn't take long. the last picture was taken 10 seconds after the previous one.

here are some pictures i took a while ago, at about 11.15. the early morning was sunny but now it has become cloudy.
the close-ups are a bit misty...
i haven't been watching all morning, but i've only seen one bird so far today.
this is strange: i don't seem to suffer from my d-deficiency now...?
d, d, d, d, d,d,d,ddddddddd!
maybe the eagle camera has so much difficulties that my d's go unnoticed?

Ame, I read somewhere that eagles, storks start their reproduction phase by mingling body fluids when the cloaca come into contact, so not much time is needed.
