As usual, 33(11) is catching plenty of fish to feed the chicks as well as himself and Maya - he has already brought 2 back today, including a Roach!
Now the chicks have hatched, 33(11) is more regularly bringing fish back. From the data collected last year, prior to the chicks hatching he averaged 1 fish a day, which increased to an average of 2 fish a day post-hatching. One day 33(11) was even recorded to have brought an astonishing 7 fish back to the nest!

Yesterday evening 33(11) brought a fantastic Pike back. Today, both adults have been around and Maya is doing an amazing job in keeping those chicks shaded

Continued from Manton Bay – May 2020
The history of the Manton Bay nest, breeding stats and links to previous threads can be found here
The season so far: The resident pair both returned on 16 March - Blue 33(11) at 07:12 and Maya at 13:16. For the second consecutive year, Maya laid four eggs – the first on 29 March followed by another three first seen on 4, 6 and 9 April. Maya and Blue 33(11) faithfully incubated the four eggs and on day 38, the first chick hatched 6 May c13:20 followed by Chick #2 on 8 May c06:10, Chick #3 on 10 May c14:45, and Chick #4 on 13 May c20:45.
All four chicks have thrived under the protection of Maya and Blue 33(11) who has once again proved to be a fantastic provider for his family.
In two/three week’s time, the chicks will be ringed and we’ll learn a bit more about them.

Here are the four Manton Bay chicks sporting their new rings! This year their ring combinations are all numbers which are: 080, 081, 082, 083.
We believe the chicks are all males, BUT please be aware that at this stage they, particularly the two youngest chicks, are still not quite developed enough to be able to say this for certain.
all males, wow

Osprey chicks grow incredibly quickly all thanks to a high protein diet of fish. Over the past few weeks we have watched the four Manton Bay chicks grow and develop

Here are the profiles of the four chicks at Manton Bay, in age order. While the chicks are being rung, other data is collected, which we have included as well. Further details on the other measurements will be explained in a blog entry coming soon

082 almost takes off!
As the chicks get older they increase the amount of wing flapping and will start to lift-off from the nest cup, initially by only a few centimetres.

Here is some amazing footage of the Manton Bay family taken by Chris Wood yesterday, featuring 33(11) having a good bath.
Bathing removes any dust, dirt and parasites, whilst also moistening their feathers before preening. Preening and bathing ensures the feathers are in the best possible condition.
