Birdfriend, Ferenz! :hi:

The ospreys may return from next week. In any case, it will be interesting to see if and how vehemently they drive the kestrels away. I saw a situation this afternoon where the crow flew away when the kestrel came. Unfortunately the timestamp was not noted.
There was a second wife today. It was of course not tolerated. 8-)

Birdfriend :hi:

I hope everything will be fine for both of them.
How short do you think the female is to lay her eggs? The nest may not be good for breeding and the return of the Osprey is imminent ...

I noticed today that the nest is a bit obstructed. there is a branch in the middle of the free hollow. The wind or ravens?

:hi: Polly, Birdfriend

I had been listening / watching for a long time today. The platform is almost like a * meeting point *. The male sits for a long time, waits ... then the female comes (near the platform). The male flies away (but very close), you can hear them mating. Then the male flies back to the platform ..... Or the female comes to the platform and waits, the male comes, they mate again and he flies away ...
This has happened countless times today, in the time that I have watched.
I don't think you chose the platform for Nest ... I hope so.

I also really like the kestrels, but also the peregrine falcons

@Polly: Maybe the egg laying time is not more far away. Normally she begins in April.

If I read correctly, kestrels don't build nests. They basically just lay their eggs ... in niches, caves.

Birdfriend :hi:
I often check the stream during the day to see if the ospreys are back ... if there are any signs.
Meanwhile, the kestrels feel at home here. In some time we will know whether the topic needs to be postponed. :rotf:

This couple indulge themselves in any case at any moment.

The female jumps into the nest shortly after mating (and after she has thoroughly cleaned her claws) and tries a little clumsily to create order.

March 25th

Return of an Ospreys!

Both kestrels sit on the mast. The female had already brought prey to the nest twice in the morning and ate there. An Osprey flies over the nest calling, ... circling it. The female kestrel looks restlessly up, then begins to give off alarm calls.

10:12 Both falcons fall down, fleeing. The Osprey is coming down now.

Image

The Osprey is constantly being attacked. I'm not sure if it's the male or the female. (Kestrels)
