Re: Osprey Nests in Europe

Post by Polly »

It calms down quickly. The kestrels both perch on the mast.
Now there are three of them sitting.

Image

10:20:30 Both falcons leave the mast. They don't give up ... imply renewed attacks. The Osprey is now tinkering with sticks in the nest. Sometimes he pulls his feet in ... he must be exhausted from the trip.
10:24:06 He's thrown out and the kestrel pursues him.
You can hear the Kestrels while he's gone. But they stay away from the nest.

11:45 The Osprey returns to the nest and brings the kestrels with it.

Image

11:48 He digs in the nest bowl. :innocent:

I hope the battle for the nest is resolved soon.
I would have loved the kestrels too, but it's just the wrong place for them. If I read correctly, don't kestrels have very special requirements?
I hope there is a nice place for your breeding there. :innocent: The two are beautiful animals!

Thank you very much, Polly, for reporting and pics!

Wow, both are back, the male is ringed. I'm also a bit sad for the lovely kestrel pair. Hope they can find an other place soon...

Aaah ... are both back now? :shake:
I was on duty and couldn't follow. But I remember thinking I heard two Ospreys calling.

I now add the nest to my posts with the arrival of the first Osprey and the second round in the match.

I'm trying to smooth my sympathy for the kestrels a bit
(I'm really sorry) and enjoy this nest with its owners. This couple has been breeding very successfully for a long time and the place is beautiful with great light and lots of birds and their singing. This camera is really recommended.

Thank you Birdfriend! :innocent:

March 26th

Good Morning
Birdfriend, are you sure both ospreys are back? I was too tired to swaddle it yesterday. But I only see yesterday's Osprey today. :puzzled:
I no longer saw the kestrel in the nest. But they can be heard and they still mate there. 8-)

Image

It is the resident male 4ZE.

In fact, a strange, unsinged female appeared today. Neither wasted any time.

The male, 4ZE, was submissive and the first mating soon followed ... more attempt than success.

The female gets her fish delivered, which she eats with the envy of a crow outside the nest.
Image

This area appears to have good sources of food. 4ZE wasn't long gone ...

The next pairing. That looks more successful.
(There have been better moments of pairing than this picture)
Image

18+ and the crow doesn't miss a thing ... .

She nags a lot ... but that's good.
Image

The resident female is still pending ...
In the past, competitors were quickly driven out.

Polly, thanks for reporting and pics.

So, she is not his mate? He has a dark chest for a male. At first I thought he is a female.
I also like that nest.

Evening time, the lady talks a lot. :D

The lady is still on the nest.

I'm not very sure about gendering. I start from scratch at the beginning of every season.
When he started digging, I saw Teo and had a first suspicion. :rotf:
So I turned to Goetsche wildnis's website.
I'm very curious about this season. I've never seen this camera before. There are many other beautiful birds to hear. I'm curious to see where I hear the first cuckoo. :innocent:

Edit:
Very nice picture of a good pairing!

Hello everybody! :loveshower: I also immediately liked this nest in the desert. There are always a lot of birds and interesting activities here. I made two videos before, and today I shot a video about the first family day of a pair of ospreys. The male is ringed, and the female is very loud.) I was worried about a couple of kestrels, but everything seems to be fine. They have a nest on the same platform just below. At the end of the video, you can see how the kestrel flies out of the nest to chase away the crow, and then the osprey helps her, and also chases the crow away.

Female 4ZY is back :loveshower:, she was seen at 26.03 on her nest. She was already very busy with building up the nest. I hope the male will be back soon.

Goitzsche Wildnis

Yes, olgapyat, this female calls the completely day for fish, fish, fish. She seems never be sated. The male brought three fishes within one hour.
I took that pic with the nice colours from the sunlight.
Image

Shortly before both left, male tried a mating, but the lady was not willing.

olgapyat thank you for sharing that nice video.

Goitzsche-Wildnis

March 28th

Thanks everyone for your reports, photos and video! :2thumbsup:
The resident female has not yet returned. There are now very good matings here and the male is very busy bringing food for the female. Yes, she calls out very forcefully. :D

Both very beautiful Ospreys.

I didn't see the kestrels again, though?
