Yesterday Aran was so eager to feed the chicks he even offered Mrs G some pieces. She refused his gentle offers and soon decided to take over the fish and show him how it should be done!

Viewers of the live streaming may have noticed the dome camera was on a little longer than usual this morning. This was due to a minor technical problem which caused our main nest camera to become jammed. The camera is working fine now, but while it was frozen and we were unable to move it, this little goldcrest came to say hello.

We have some very exciting news to share with you.

KS1 is back in the UK!!

She has been at a location in the north-west of England since 4th June. Thank you to Tim Sarney for the information and photographs of KS1 and also Peter Marsh for helping to identify her. This is fantastic news.

KS1 was the middle chick of the 2018 Glaslyn brood and is the tenth of Mrs G's offspring to return and the second one for Aran. She was the dominant bird in the brood and was known for her fondness for stockpiling fish and making as much noise as possible.

Pity, that the sound is so bad in this year...

The chicks were ringed this morning, the details are on the image below. As the weather was hot the decision was taken not to weigh them to save time. Video and blog of the ringing to follow.

Ospreys are piscivores, with a strict diet of fish that is generally fairly easy to digest. Occasionally we see our Ospreys regurgitating a liquid, which consists of some of the indigestible parts, such as scales, bones and skin. On very rare occasions we see them regurgitate a small pellet. The youngest chick produced one on Sunday morning and we were fortunate enough to capture it on camera.

Aran was up to his old tricks again yesterday as he brought another awkward stick to the nest. Mrs G and her little helpers soon sorted it out though.

Eldest chick KC2 reached an exciting milestone this week as she attempted to self-feed for the first time. She confidently took the fish from Aran's talons and there was no way she was going to let Mrs G take it away from her.

Birdfriend, good to see you, hope you doing well

Breaking news! KC2 has fledged!

Eldest chick KC2, now 50 days old, has spent a lot of time looking over the edge of the nest the past couple of days and found a small post to practice perching on. This morning she looked up at the sky for several minutes before helicoptering almost as high as the top of the camera. At 14:48 this afternoon she took her first short flight around the back of the nest before safely landing. She was joined briefly in the sky by mum, Mrs G.

Today the fledging window has also opened for KC3, who is now 49 days old. How long until he takes to the skies?

We rarely see the ospreys regurgitating a pellet and this year we have seen them passed by two of our chicks. KC3 produced one today.
