Short video of the Dutch white tailed eagle pair, where you can see how much they have built up their nest the last 2 weeks. First shots are from 2 weeks ago, followed by more recent uptakes. Also a change of breeding duties is to be seen:

All is quiet on the Nestern Front of the Dutch WTE webcam (http://www.volgdezeearend.nl/). Male and female change incubation duties every now and then, prey arrives on the nest and it will still take some time before the first egg hatches.

However, yesterday local rangers and foresters confirmed that there are already eaglets on 2 other known WTE nest locations in the Netherlands; at the Oostvaardersplassen, in the Biesbosch. :bounce: :bounce:

Picture of one of the parents feeding the eaglet in the Biesbosch nature reserve:

All is fine on the nest and no real news to report.

Here a short video where you can guess the prey the Dutch WTEs bring home to their nest:

I am just watching the Danish Sea Eagles nest:
both chicks are fine, but one seems tired (or even weak).

I like the fact that both parents are on the nest very often.

Have a wonderful Easter Sunday, everyone.

edit: weak was wrong, some fighting going on now.

April 22nd

The female's leg is still not fully recovered. Fortunately the male is good hunter. In the afternoon he brought an eel (or a garfish) and fed eaglets.
In the evening he brought another prey (?) again.

Both eagles on the Dutch nest still do their incubation duties, and yesterday this picture was taken of one of them trying to catch a duck:

The Danish male is wonderful. He hunts, takes care of the female and eaglets. The pantry is so full that there is almost no place for the whole family.

The female has to use her wings to move around the nest.

The Dutch white tailed eagle (http://www.volgdezeearend.nl) cam has been offline for 2 days now. People have been checking the cables and concluded that the failure is somewhere in the cam itself. The failure can be caused by heavy rains, or perhaps even by lightning. If moisture is the case, then the cam will be online again as soon as it has evaporated. If lightning struck the cam, it is worse and the problem can only be solved later on, when the eaglets are out of the eggs.

Meanwhile a video from last week:

Sad news indeed.

Translation:
White tailed eagles not on their nest anymore

Bad news for all white tailed eagle followers: the white tailed eagles still fly around their nest, but don't breed anymore.

Thursday April 24th, around 19:00 in the evening, there was a severe thunderstorm in the vicinity of the nest. On that moment the webcam failed and no pictures were received anymore.

Volunteer Lammer van de Burg was yesterday, as usual, in the shed with view on the nest. And he also observed the birds on and around the nest yesterday evening. But since this morning they are still flying around, but stopped sitting on their egg(s).

Foresteer Egbert van Wijhe: "the cause is unknown, and we won't repair the camera nor climb the tree in order to look into the nest if there's an egg still. For the time being we stay away from the eagles to give them their rest. The most important is that the birds feel comfortable here at Roggebotzand, and hopefully attempt to breed here again next year."
Not all isn't necesarily lost yet. If they start to breed again very, very soon, the egg(s) still might have a chance since the last 2 weeks of incubation are the most important, although they were well into the 4th week of breeding. Or perhaps the pair tries again and another clutch of eggs is laid. Time will tell.
