This is a sweet gum that began turning early (mine are still virtually completely green).

I noticed it a week or more ago already turning. I'll look and see if I can find an earlier photo.

Really beautiful! What colours!
I pass a big bush every day and at the moment the leaves on the tips of some branches have turned yellow, it looks really nice, like some kind of small lanterns there.

I think this bush was near the relatively new (or not so new) engineering building on campus

This is a just completed installation piece by Patrick Dougherty

It is also on the Oregon State University campus. The articles on his work and he has done them in many places, suggest that pieces last about 2-3 years.

Alice, your photographs are superb.
Those sculptures are really interesting. Is there a website where we can learn about the sculptor?

I did not find as many words as I was looking for. This is his official site
http://www.stickwork.net/installations.php
It has pictures of some installations. "News" lists where his sculptures are now, but biography does not say much.

From the not very informative signs on campus and talking with a woman at the sculptures, I gather that building these pieces, which are much taller than a person (I will get an image with a person in it) took about a month -- from Oct 3 until Oct 21. He says his pieces usually last about 2 years sitting in the elements.

Here is a picture of a sculpture with my mother inside it peeking out the "window." As you can see they are pretty big objects.

I am going to try to photograph them at least once a month to see how they fit into the environment as the weather changes.

This has been a relatively dry fall so far so the colours are good.

These are leaves on a bit of weed elm tree I will need to try to pull at some time -- not that it will be easy. I have taken pictures separated by a few days to show the change.
