Thank you, Felis for the photo. The squirrel looks good and cute, it's almost smiling

Merry Christmas to you too!

We had sunshine today. Squirrels, and the pheasant visited only in the morning. Later I didn't see not one single squirrel. The snow is thick and soft and that's perhaps one reason why they do not move that much. There is here some hawk too. I have seen a brownish fast flying bird (rather tall, like 'crow'), not often, only once 1-2 weeks, if not even that often.

One of the morning visitors, the red tailed young looking squirrel:

You are right, spatz! He is safe here on the hill. But elsewhere, in the forests outside the populated areas it is going on the pheasant official hunting season, from September to February.

:innocent: There is a Gray headed woodpecker on the apple tree! It was wholly motionless perhaps be cause it noticed me moving behind the window.

Merry Christmas to you too, spatz!

I got this fellow after he quickly went up the tree when a dog came along. He was kind of "smiling" down on the dog, and yes, my colleague and I had that kind of feeling too! :rotf:
We finally have a very thin layer of snow too, today morning! So a bit of winter feeling came along.

You got a lot of interesting visitors. The pheasant must know that he is safe on Squirrel Hill. But the different woodpeckers are also a treat to see!

Edit: by the way, we have two of this dark squirrels, this one without the ear tassels and the other one with ear tassels. But that one is so shy and quick, I did not get him photographed until now.

:hi:
Thank you Olga for splendid pictures and videos.
Mrs Mops and Mops Jr are lovely with their new long tassels.
Coal Tit, Great Tit and couple of Black Woodpeckers are beautiful too.
The trees covered by fresh snow look like landscape from a fairy tale The Snow Queen.
In my area the snow is melting and I miss a real winter :(

Here is an amazingly cute little North American Red Squirrel -- it is a baby

ImagePhoto of the Week - American Red Squirrel (ME) by U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service - Northeast Region, on Flickr

In this case ME means Maine -- so the opposite side of the country from me.

I always think the European Red squirrels are the cutest, but this comes close.

Happy New Year to Looduskalender friends and to the Squirrel hill's squirrel friends!

Here the New Year night was ... huh... flashes and bombs, you know... :slap:
Squirrels were hideous for one, two days,
But now they are back!

Here we go again:

Castano on the 28th December and the 6th January 2015:

3rd January the temparature rose suddenly, it rained a lot and the snow vanished in one day:

Image

 4th January, after the rainy day and a windy night the ground was white again:

Temperature was -15C!
A pine branch fallen down by the wind in the night:
