YOUTUBE:***Update - February 6, 2015 - As of today, Nanoose is back on medication for a gastric infection that seems to be a bit persistent. O.W.L is hoping to get on top of it and get things back on track for recovery and release. Fingers crossed......!!!
FACEBOOK: O.W.L. Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society Don Dunbar, the fisherman who rescued her, stopped by for a quick visit today. He is so caring and genuinely concerned for her well being. It was nice to see him today.

Here is a look at our Pool Habitat.
This is one of our flight conditioning enclosures. Today this Juvenile Bald Eagle is working on her flight skills in preparation for her release in the near future. If she wishes, she can even hunt from the pool which is stocked with live trout.

***Update - February 10, 2015 - Stopped by O.W.L. to see Nanoose today and she was looking a little "disheveled". As O.W.L. manager Mindy explained it, this is due to her being quite enamored with splashing around in her water dish.....to the point they've hung her with the pet name "Swimmer". One would think that with her previous history she might be a little averse to the water, but good to see there hasn't been any lasting psychological impact. O.W.L. has her on a new antibiotic regimen in hopes of getting on top of the persistent bug she's been battling and are keeping a close eye on things. Keep up the good work guys.....!!!

In the news RBB Berlin Brandenburg an injured eagle was shown.
He has no fear of humans. he is nursed back to health in Szczecin.

EDIT: The eagle is injured on the wings. He has very good appetite and can be left free again in April.
He got the name silvester

FACEBOOK March 3rd, 2015: "Nanoose" is still fighting illness, and is finding it difficult to keep her food down. We are monitoring her daily, and she is proving to be a fighter with a strong will to survive! In the last two days, she has been practicing her hunting skills, and is successfully catching and eating her prey. This is important, as fresh prey is very nutritious, and will aid in her recovery. Her ailment has been pin pointed to inflammation in her abdominal area, and our next step is an ultrasound to target and treat the affected area. Poor bird, it succeeded though to get rid of that weasel at last on the ground as the story told.

YOUTUBE:***Update - March 5, 2015 - Got the sad news this morning that yesterday "Nanoose" had succumbed to whatever the ailment was she was suffering from. Mindy, Martina, Dina and all the staff at O.W.L. did their utmost to heal her during the 6 months she was with them, and they should be proud of the work they did....and continue to do. Also, many thanks to Lorinne and Norm of Wild Aid for facilitating her transport to O.W.L. .......RIP Nanoose....fly free....!!! .....if you feel inclined to help out O.W.L. with the good work they do, their contact information is on their website at

FACEBOOK March 6th: "Nanoose"
It is with great sadness that we have to tell you, "Nanoose" passed away yesterday. We at O.W.L are very heavy hearted. We did everything we could, but she was just so very ill in the end. Sometimes, no matter what we do for our patients, they are just not able to respond to treatment. She was treated for an ecoli infection, anemia, and ongoing emaciation. There were tears at O.W.L today, as we became very close to her. There will be a necropsy done to try and find out what caused her death. We would like to thank all the veterinarians who tried their best to cure her ailments. She is free of any struggle now, and we will miss her. Thank you to Don Dunbar for rescuing her. It was Don's birthday yesterday, and it was also the day that his new baby grandson was born.

"Penguin" was only a few weeks old when found on the ground by the Blooms in the nearby suburb of Bilgola Beach in late 2013.
After seeking the advice of a veterinarian, the family set about hand-rearing the chick and in the process turned Penguin into a mini social media celebrity –
Here is a picture serie of a magpie (called Penguin), who was helped as baby by a family in Australia. The bird became a tame and loyal friend to the family and kept on returning to the yard of the family, also inside the house. Father of the family happens to be a photographer - so we can enjoy of nice shots on the instagram site opened for Penguin:

In one of these articles it is said that releasing magpies grown up with humans can be a problem - for the bird itself - as the species are very territorial. So as lovely as wild animals become tamed, as difficult humans make there return to the nature ...?

today's newspaper
Helsingin Sanomat had an article about a tawny owl who had got stuck inside a chimney in Espoo in the capital area of Finland. the fire brigade worked for an hour and half to get the owl out of the chimney. then the owl was taken to the animal hospital of the Korkeasaari Zoo in Helsinki. the owl's condition was monitored for a day and after it had eaten well it was given a bath. in fact it was washed three times with a hand washing medium with sooty black water like ink coming out each time. after the wash the owl was dried with a blow drier and it was placed under an infrared lamp wrapped in a blanket. it was given mice to eat. after it has been seen that it has recovered well it will be released on its territory.
in this 'after'-picture the normal colours of the owl can be seen.

In Mecklenburg has a pair of peregrine falcons
occupied a ospreys nest. A WTE, that flew over was attacked by the falcons
The Ospreys are now expected. They always come at 29.03. to the nest. Female has ring number Z78.
They are curious to see what will happen at the nest. they breed since 5 years at this nest
Zitat"An ornithological Sensation is currently observed on Brückentinsee. Each year at the same time normally returns an osprey back to a nest on the lake. However, this year occupied a peregrine falcons pair the eagle's nest. Actually falcons nest in crevices or caves"
