Due to the increasing White-tailed Eagle population in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, new WtE breeding pairs tend to settle also in landscapes without bodies of water nearby. In several cases former or active Black Stork territories were occupied.

143. Young White-tailed Eagles in the Lobau/Vienna. Austria, June 2014

Junge Seeadler in der Lobau! Gefährdete Tierart brütet wieder in Wien

Es ist ein Riesenerfolg: In der Lobau, im Wiener Teil des Nationalpark Donauauen, wurden nun wieder zwei kleine Seeadler in einem Horst entdeckt! "Durch den sorgsamen Umgang mit den Wald-Wassergebieten und intensiven Schutzmaßnahmen verbesserten sich die Lebensbedingungen zunehmend", erklärt Umweltstadträtin Ulli Sima. Die gute Zusammenarbeit zwischen den Wiener Magistratsabteilungen 49, 45 und 31 sowie der Seeadlerspezialisten vom WWF Österreich und der Nationalpark GmbH. machte dies möglich.

So kam es im Jahr 2001 in Österreich erstmals seit über 50 Jahren wieder zu einer erfolgreichen Brut die sich jährlich weiterentwickelt. Dabei steht der Seeadler auf der roten Liste der gefährdeten Tierarten in Europa ganz oben. "Umso erfreulicher, dass er sich doch seit einiger Zeit im Wiener Teil des Nationalpark Donau- Auen, wieder sehr wohl fühlt", so Forstdirektor der Stadt Wien Andreas Januskovecz.
Das Adlerpärchen hat bereits das fünfte Mal erfolgreich gebrütet und mittlerweile neun Junge großgezogen. Nach einer Brutdauer von ca.
38 Tagen sind die beiden Jungadler Mitte April geschlüpft und wurden sorgsam von ihren Eltern aufgezogen. In den kommenden Tagen werden die Jungen den Horst verlassen und in den nächsten Monaten von den Altvögeln wichtiges zum Überleben in den Donauauen lernen

Mindst 56 par havørne yngler i Danmark i år
Since 1996 almost 500 young White-tailed eagles were born in Denmark. At least 56 breeding pairs live in the country in 2014 - seven more than last year.

148.Visitor from the Biesbosch. Netherlands, August 2014

Bezoek uit de Biesbosch

A Dutch juvenile female WTE, ringed in the Biesbosch National Park on May 8th this year, was sighted on the island of Texel on August 28th, some 200 km away from her natal area.
