The Wild Bird Center is the first raptor care and rehabilitation station in the country. According to ornithologist Uģis Bergmanis, the place will become no “retirement home” but is dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned wild birds. (See doc. 171)

According to Cynthia de Wit, Swedish ornithologists try “to figure out why white-tailed sea eagles on the coast of the Baltic Sea are again experiencing thin shells and deformed embryos. “It’s very alarming; we really don’t know why,” she said, adding that it’s possible that old chemicals are being “remobilized” or that new ones are having effects not yet assessed.”

“A satellite-tagged white-tailed eagle disappeared in April, with the last signal from its tag coming close to North Glenbuchat in Aberdeenshire.” Near the park, 22 red kites and buzzards were found dead. 16 of these raptors “were killed by an illegal poison.”
