40.Raptors and wind energy. Germany, May 2016

A citizens´ initiative, which is mobilizing against a local wind park project, announced today that a young White-tailed Eagle died of suspected poisoning last October. According to the group, two trees where Red Kites nisted have been cut illegaly in the Zicherie-Tülau area, and three nest disappeared since 2012.

According to Bund Naturschutz, the parent birds abandoned the young probably because of human disturbance at the nest site.

According to the article, the University of Oulu confirmed that the bird – ringed in 2014 – was killed by a wind turbine near Raahe at the end of April.

The bird was found with an injured wing in March. According to the article, it was nursed back to health and now, shortly before the release, fitted with a radio transmitter.
