Raven Camera

Post by Jo UK »

A new Webcam viewing ravens and their chicks.

http://www.looduskalender.ee/en/node/9875

mms://tv.eenet.ee/korsten

An independent group of nature lovers brought up the pr://tv.eenet.ee/korstenoject "Raven" last autumn to draw special attention to the context of the urban landscape. The raven pair having made a nest on top of the chimney fits perfectly as the first ”city birdie." In the forest the wary birds build their nest in a large pine top. In ”artificial” environments some nests have been found on high voltage power transmission masts , but this raven family have a "million dollar" view.

There are chicks in the nest now, probably about a week old.

Thank you, bociany.
I saw one small beak, gaping wide for a feed.
Has anyone seen how many chikcs there are?

i saw it in the morning and took some pictures and a video clip, and another in the afternoon.

here the parent is sitting in the nest at 6.42:

at 12.26 the parent was away and there were big chicks in the nest, at least two of them. they have grey plumage at this stage.

after feeding the parent sat on the railing. how many ravens are there? :whistling:

but i didn't find the forum earlier than this. it wasn't activated in the front page and i wasn't clever eneough to look in the board index...

It's not easy to see, now they are in shadow!
Yes, I understand that it is Tallinn Harbour that we see.

Tallinn harbour & raven nest location: try this Google maps view . (reduce magnification as needed ...)
Ravens themselves are not visible on map though even at best magnification - I think :innocent:
They really can take a good look at the Tallinn-Helsinki and Tallinn-Stockholm ferries ...

What a surprise! :D
BTW some parts of the movie "Stalker" by Andrei Tarkovsky were filmed in these parts of Tallinn. The chimney still has huge painted letters " UN " :D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalker_%28film%29

here is the chimney seen from the sea...in last September

Well, this is a nice surprise. I, too, wish there were sound. But it is interesting to see the cityscape beyond the nest. And that ravens have a really good overlook for their nest on the chimney!

there was a food delivery at 10.37 but i missed the beginning, so i still could not make a head count of the chicks. one parent was covering the chicks first and the other came with food and fed the chicks. then it left and the first parent returned from the reiling to cover the chicks.

the throats of the chicks seem to be bright pink/red :D
they don't seem to be begging all at the same time, so it is difficult to count them. they might even be four of them, but at least two.

It is interesting to see the ravens' family life. I really enjoyed seeing how raven couples were so affectionate with each other at the forest feeding cam during winter. They looked like they were kissing by touching beaks together, tenderly preening each others' neck feathers, walking about together like proper engaged couples, & they talked sweetly to each other with murmurings, gurgles, & whispers only between the two of them. It was fascinating & raised my estimation of them even higher.
