I didn't want to say there is no such thing as pecking order / hierarchy / sibling rivalry.

Not that you think: "Good heavens, now he has lost his sanity."
 mogga, I don't think that anyone got that view.

17:49:50 Oldie making trouble again.
edit: Oldie seems quite ruthless. Keeps pecking even after the sibling is submissively down.

Big one had its head high up at the first after Irma took off for a short round .... middle one thought it was good idea to measure its hight with big one .... but it turned out to be wrong decision ....
Small one did the right and did not even move ...

Ivo took leftovers of the pike away at 18:57
Image

But he delivered a Mirror Carp at 20:12 (have no good picture of it)

He came to take it away at 20:32 - one can see clearly the "mirrors" on the fish, along the dorsal line and at the side and towards the fishtail

:hi: all here!
I just make a short visit at Irmas nest and her fandom. :gathering: Irma and Ivo have three chicks in this season, really good to see that. When I remember me right, the last clutch with three chicks was in 2015 with Joosep.
I hope, that all can survive and will fledge. My best wishes for Irma, Ivo and their offsprings.

I went back to that season and found this pic (made by Bea), makes me laugh!
All in expectation for the next fresh fish!

I just read a bit in the forum about 2015. I want to find out something about the sibling rivalry at that time (Niina, Thor, Yolanda)...

mogga :hi:
I observed many nests, when three chicks are there, it gives these rivalries very often, more and stronger than in nests with two chicks. Mostly the last hatched has a heavy destiny.

Juri wrote: June 12th, 2018, 3:30 pm This makes me wonder. Last year, when there were only two chicks, I don't remember seeing pecking as aggressive as this. Perhaps, the more chicks there are, the more important establishing hierarchy becomes. :puzzled:
2015 (Irma + Joosep) there were three siblings, too. Niina, Thor and Yolanda. I read what happened at that time. From the 13.06. (one day after the third chick hatched) to the 23.06. I only found one mention of pecking towards each other during this 10 days. Maybe it's always various. As we say in Germany (especially Cologne): "Jeder Jeck ist anders" – Each carnival reveller is different :D

Here is the pecking of Niina, Thor, Yolanda on 16.06, 11:22
(The video quality at that time was not as good as now)

Oh no - I fear I couldn´t kill a fish in case I would be able to catch one at all

I counted and identified the fish that was brought to the nest in seasons 2013 and 2014 (at least I did my best, with help of other forum members), and so I worked into this topic of fish species :book: Until that time I didn´t know very much about fish species :D
Season 2015 I had to cut, for different reasons.

It is still interesting to see which fish species arrive and I am also always speculating for myself whether they were out of a commercial pond or natural waters ....

Yep, we had a different type of camera then, not of the quality we have now.

This looks scary
Can they seriously hurt each other at this age?

Mogga's photo of Ivo -
someone else's comment in Ivo's voice "what are you staring at?" - I add "give us some privacy, will you? This is my family, we're not some television show!"

Lispet, that's a beautiful catch of the misty morning surrounding the nest. It made me unexpectedly realize how small the nest is - it seems so much bigger than it looks in that photo. Thanks for posting it.
