7: 30. The osprey is sitting on the webcam and preening its feathers. Sometimes seen the shadow of his tail to the left.
7: 37. The osprey flew away.
This osprey looks like the one that flew here on April 19.

Hello, everybody,
I saw the untouched one at 7.08 and asked myself the question. Who occupies the nest first, a male or a female?
Have a nice Sunday, everybody.

Good morning, Bawet!
As adult male ospreys return first/earlier from migration than adult females, I´d say the males "occupy" the nests first.
But there may be other possibilities for young birds who return from migration for the first time (after two years staying in Africa ...), young males maybe find nests with already older females whose males are not returning home from migration .... young unexperienced ospreys meet on a nest "by accident" and their genes and hormones drive them to take it as first time nesting place and so on .... I bet there are lots of possibilities

That sure is one handsome osprey!
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Yeah, you're right.
I only thought about it because the nest is free.
Probably has to hear about it first.
We hope further, because it is such a pity to see this nest mostly empty.

Gavril, the ringed female (MM), needs to return to the nest now that the male is here. Why they haven’t met up yet is a nail biter.
Great videos, pictures and posts!

Hi Uta,
great catch
Osprey with red ring and white letter/numbers N59 should be a Latvian osprey.
I´ll send request and hope we´ll get more to know about this osprey

Video of N59 visiting the nest
This letter/number seemed somehow familiar for me .... and it is familiar, but only with a little change
Latvian Osprey nest 2015 - Laima & Pēteris - had three osprets, Ungurs, Raiskums, Amata, and they got rings N94 (Amata), N95 (Raiskums), N96 (Ungurs).

Maybe this osprey here is from the same year, 2015, and a first-time-returner from migration?
Would be another Teenie here!

Hi Bea and Helen!
Oh yes,i remember me on this nest.Raiskums have had ring nr.N95.Such a joy to know that any juvies from earlier years do survive and are well and returning back.
Thank you Helen, realy looks like the same ospreys.I ever hope for next year and that this nest will be not empty.
If not,so landing lot ospreys with a ring for the ID,what i rearly not wish.

You are the best!!!!
Thank you for watching this beautiful nest as well and I enjoy your snapshots !! Whenever I can, I run this camera. Besides Irma & Ivo and Suvi & Sulev ... but this most. But I never see an Osprey. I only hear it.
I have 2 questions:
Why are the young eagles coming so late in the season? (although not all sightings have been young eagle but mostly)
And ... if they keep this cycle, it will not always be too late for a brood?
I am pleased about every visitor of this nest and as I once wrote - surely a couple will secure this nest for the next season this year.
Unfortunately, our young people do not seem to have a dating app.
Thanks @all!

News about osprey N59
It was ringed as a nestling in Latvia, Vidaga, Ape (that´s at the Latvian-Estonian border, about 50 km SW from cam place here) on 02.07.2017
- - - -
So my presumption that we have another teenie osprey from 2015 was not wrong

Edit 21.05.2018
Aigars Kalvāns sent a picture of nest tree of N59 - thank you very much!
