08:05 Iiris tries to feed the chick but she stands too far away from it. Then finally she gets closer and manages to give a couple of morsels of fish to the chick. Now the chick is facing at the wrong direction and Iiris is not very sure what to do. She eats the fish herself and hesitates how to give the morsels to the chick.

Hello everybody :)

Wow ! I'm happy to see the first one ! :))

But unfortunately the feeding wasn't successful at all :(
The adult seems to be very unexperienced and unsure what to do and the timing didn't work :(

But i hope, they'll manage it !!

I didn't see the start of the feeding, so unsure how much the chick was actually fed. Iiris seemed uncertain how to go about it, walking around the nest and trying from different angles.
Mom and baby will both learn.

Jenny, the eggshell on the left of the nest is the one from this chick. I saw Iiris remove it.

They are managing the feeding better now!

This reminds me of what it was like when we first brought our daughter home from the hospital. Being new parents and not having much of a clue what to do! We muddled through it, and so will they.

Oh god, it seems that Iiris for the first time became a mother. A little awkward she tries to feed the chick. Simply lay down again seems to be the better solution, but if someone under your body screams for food, that is not so optimal. Ivo, however, is in his element and brings the required fish. All the best for you, Iiris, you will learn and feed the chicks well.

Thanks for the photos and gif, and detailed information.
I am at work, I don’t have time to look, but how lucky it is to see this back with a stripe and watch how Iris takes care of him.Тherefore, thanks to you I can sometimes get news from the nest. :D
Congratulations to all with the birth of the first baby of Iiris and ... the 7th of Ivo. :loveshower:

Thanks, happy to see this photo - haven't seen one successful feeding yet.
Laying a little branch onto the chicken was not the best idea, too

Baby is now pinned down by the branch Iiris dropped in it. Trying to feed but not reaching close enough. :slap:

The occasional morsel gets in its mouth, though.
Iiris will move the branch when she finds it too lumpy to squat over!

Is anyone else finding themselves stretching their own necks forward as they watch this?

And the branch is removed! And baby is being fed! Yay!

Hyacinth :rotf:

Hm, being fed ?
I only saw, that the beaks sometimes met, but either the beak was already empty or the fish fell down before or the chicken spluttered it out.

Ivo is back... - and away with the fish.

I did see a little food get into the chick's mouth. Not a whole lot, but better than before.

I hope Ivo brings more fish soon.
And now I'm off to bed, myself.

Hello and welcome little chick! I hope, Ivo and Iiris are more successful than the owls and the black storks. It was very hard to watch "nature".
