Hana wrote: May 29th, 2021, 9:25 pmLooks like she's only found a partner now. It's quite late to start nesting, but let's keep our fingers crossed for her. Thank you Solo for all good news :D
:hi: Hana,
we will see what next - prof. Strazds will definitely "visit" her (and download data from the transmitter) if it will be possible

Hana, big thank to you too for updates - it is pity that we have data only from Turek

Storks in Storks w Lasach (in the woods) - end of the project
In the years 2017-2020, the Forest Experimental Station of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Rogów, together with the Eagle Conservation Committee, implemented the project entitled: "Storks in Forests. Good practices for the protection and management of the black stork population Ciconia nigra in forest areas ”, which was co-financed (85% of eligible costs) from the European Union Cohesion Fund under the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Program 2014-2020. The scope of the project covered 20 Natura 2000 areas, 17 Promotional Forest Complexes, 48 forest districts.
The project has come to an end, so it's time for a small summary and presentation of the environmental and material effects.
We have monitored 90 black stork sites. In practice, it turned out that in many Natura 2000 sites the data was estimated on the basis of bird observation and not the knowledge of specific nest locations. Hence, some birds may have been double-counted or may have been non-breeding birds. Thanks to the project, it was possible to verify these data in many areas.
Among many tasks: the habitats and 91 nest trees of storks were described and measured, the knowledge on the location of nests and the boundaries of 57 protection zones was updated. New nests were actively searched for in the area. In the case of 22 endangered nests, they were repaired or rebuilt and secured with anti-kunn bands. Thanks to 25 photo-traps installed annually in various regions of the country, reliable data on the success of the nest and information on the causes of leg losses were obtained.
Thanks to the installation of as many as 52 loggers, the migration routes and wintering places of the Polish black stork population were known on a scale previously unseen in Poland. Our Flight Map http://mapa.bocianimy.pl/ met with great interest among about 36 thousand people from Poland and abroad.
We also organized and conducted 17 Storks mini-campaigns. About 400 people participated in the workshops for foresters, naturalists, environmental education educators, teachers, children and young people. We have published Educational Packages http://bocianimy.pl/.../2019/05/BocianyiMy-internet.pdf which were delivered to all voivodeships in the country. We conducted Black Stork Days for children and adolescents on social media along with a competition for stork mascots.
Thanks to the broadcasting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-gQ6q2Lm9U on the YouTube channel, a huge crowd of internet users from many countries around the world was provided with the opportunity to watch live black storks and learn about their biology and habits. Only in the 2020 season, the broadcast had 1,280,068 views! The most interesting materials are gathered on a playlist containing 70 films from several seasons.
The Storks in Forests project has formally come to an end, but ... we hope that the developed good practices for the protection and management of the black stork Ciconia nigra population in forest areas will result in maintaining the proper condition of this species.
WE THANK YOU VERY MUCH to all those who helped to implement our project!
