It does not belong here. But I want to share it anyway.
There was a cold snap in 2017 with a lot of snow. The bird park in Marlow on the Baltic Sea was severely affected. Many enclosures collapsed under the snow load and the birds flew away. Northern Bald Ibis (Geronticus eremita) Black Storks, White-tailed Eagles, Lesser Spotted Eagles .. all away in deep snow.
The black stork couple came back voluntarily 10 weeks after the incident.
I was in the bird park today and saw the black storks. They told me they came back. I could not believe it and did research

This behavior amazes me a lot! It's the opposite of what I suspect.
BTW: They have 3 chicks. they will brought to different zoos.

Liz, thanx you very much for sharing - I go read it now.
EDIT: this BS pair lived in this park? if yes, how good they are able to fly? they have Nest and nested here ... how long they are in this park? ... it was not human disturbance and you know, storks are returning to their nests :-) or? What do you think?

Solo, good morning
This pair is supposedly from a bred in the zoo. So not taken from the wild. They can fly. This park has no sick, flightless birds.
What I do not understand is that they voluntarily returned to captivity.
Yes, there is loyalty to the nest in the black storks, but you can build a nest themselves.

POLAND - Dab nest, storklets 2019
FB Regionalna Dyrekcja Lasów Państwowych w Łodzi
(https://www.facebook.com/LasyPanstwoweL ... =3&theater)
The Skoczek/Jumper (Number 12) after leaving the nest did not look for brothers. He didn't wait for them. He immediately flew south - through Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. On 17 August, he registered on the Romanian-Hungarian border. Feeds on both sides of the border, on the White Keresz River. After leaving the nest storklet flew 1030 km! Siblings - Patyk/Twig (11) and Gwalbert (13) - meanwhile, less eager to travel far are still camping in the Bzura Valley
