about ELENA
FB post by Denis Kitel https://www.facebook.com/denis.kitel/po ... 1302785561

I think someone will be interested to know the fate of osprey Elenas this year.
Elena turned from the Central African Republic to her nests (300 m apart), where she has been successfully raising chicks for the past three years, but has been with them for a short time. The photo trap managed to take this picture, where you can see the colored ring with the inscription HER.
Elena nested on another nest, 11 km away, even in another swamp. Why - we do not know. Elena spent quite a long time on the new nest, so we are sure that she had laying eggs and possibly small chicks. But alas, nesting this season has been unsuccessful. We don't know the reason again. When we arrived, the nest was already empty. Probably because of this, Elena first turned to the old nests, and then, in early July, flew to Ukraine. There she sat on the ponds in the Rivne region, where she arrives every year, for several weeks, and then flew even further south. Today Elena is in the north of Romania.

:hi: Solo, thank you very much for this update on Elena.

I saw her on the birdmap today and wondered why she was already on her way.

Unfortunately, the GT translation into English of Denis' posting in fb does not really make sense. I did not know Denis was posting in Russian.

:hi:

I have a question about Osprey Vija. It looks to me like she started her migration from different places. (2020 blue, 2021 red). Did Vija breed in a different nest this year? Or hatched at all? Does anyone know?

Image

So far she has been flying a similar route. Now I'm curious whether Vija will 'turn' west again.

07.09.. Birdmap update 214 km

Thanks @sova, you golden treasure! :innocent:

I suspected (and hoped) so, but I haven't taken the time to compare all the years. I hope for a quick signal from his transmitter.
