Polly wrote: September 22nd, 2021, 7:38 pm Anne, nice to read you. Hope everything is okay ...

Still, I have to say that I'm a little upset. Opinions were asked and some more than mentioned followed the request.
Good morning!
All opinions have been red and thank you all for them!
I think, you have noticed that we continue with tracker maps in time due to members wish. Those who are not interested can just skip it.
Actually problem arose because of Julge´s unpredictable behaviour(on other topic) and we wanted to protect information.
For instance, my last tracker map was viewed almost 300 times, we didn´t know who all those viewers were.
Now I think we overreacted and now is all normal.

Thanks very much, juta.

That was absolutely understandable, given the special case of Julge. You had to make an attempt to protect Julge.

24. September

Good morning to all

Batteries of the transmitter of Pikne, Karl II and Udu are half empty / full
Pikne - just over 40%
Karl II - a little more 60%
Udu - between 50% and 60%

Hopefully the batteries will charge a little more. Who knows where the winters spend (how sunny).

Pikne, have you seen the state of your battery? What have you been doing?
Distance about 5 Km

Thanks Jo :2thumbsup:
Pikne's temperature at the first three points is very low (probably because of leg dender?)
For Udu, almost exactly the same

This will be the last of the "elevation" maps, unless members really want more of them.

Those temperatures are the same as our night temperatures here in UK. By day, they rise to 19 -20C.

Hello everyone

Exactly, Jo!
The altitude information is unreliable.

Altitude = GPS measured altitude above average sea level, in metres. (And thus not, as the altimeters in aeroplanes permanenty do, the exact, real elevation above the ground).
It goes without saying that these altitudes (measured by a satellite and sent by the transmitter) have a considerable margin of error.

Because of this margin of error, we sometimes see a bird flying under water, for many kilometres, or we see birds 'flying' at 0 km/h, while in reality and obviously, they are just standing with both feet firmly on a field. :D

These 3D images may seem fascinating at first glance, but in fact (in my opinion) they are no more than 'entertainment'.
- they suggest an altitude, but this altitude is often far from correct
- much more than a 2D map, they suggest the trajectory flown. However, also the shown trajectory is not accurate. Only the shown location points (longitude and latitude coordinates) are (more or less, at 20-30 metres accuracy) correct. The straight lines on a map connect those points, but do not represent the actual trajectory flown. (The less location points we get, the more inaccurate the displayed trajectory will be). Birds do not fly such very straight lines, nor do they make razor-sharp turns.

That is why I also prefer the 2D maps. They are much more "correct" and clear.
(As long as everyone realises that a show route represents connected location points)

This is of course just my opinion.

TRACKER MAP
PIKNE -SEPTEMBER 25th
https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid= ... sp=sharing

Today, Pikne apparently didn't know what to do.
S/he changed her/his mind a few times. :D

Total distance flown: 36.9 km
Battery level: 37% :slap:

Pikne is currently where the Prut River flows into the Danube, near Giurgiulești (Moldova), but Pikne is at the Romanian side of the border. :D
Also Ukraine is nearby. A tri-border point

Giurgiulești is a commune in the Cahul District of Moldova. It is also a border crossing point to Romania, located 10 km (6.2 mi) from Galați.
The locality is in the southernmost point of Moldova, at the confluence of the river Prut with the Danube, on the border with Romania and Ukraine.
