My pleasure, Jo. Thanks for today's tracker map.
Our Karula stayed near the Zarqa River today.
We received very few location points today.
Yes, low battery time. At 17:37:29 (UTC+2), the battery level was only 50%.
This route is 8.35 km long.

Hello everyone,
These news are not so nice. But it was somehow to expect. And of course it is normal for storks - white or black - to winter in Africa.
In any case, I'm very glad that Vedru flew on an optimal route to the Suez Canal, - he also could have flown to Saudi Arabia! Thank god he didn’t! He crossed the Suez Canal well and is now on the right route. It looks as if he knows exactly where to fly!
Dear little Vedru, good luck on your way! Take good care of you!
Many thanks, Anne, for the interesting pictures, maps and informations about Vedru‘s place. Thank you also for the complete birdmap update and for the documentation of Karula‘s paths. As always, you‘ve done a lot of work. :)
Thanks a lot, Sova, for the beautiful 3D-images from Vedru's position!
Some more pics.
What a stone desert! The inexperienced, only 6 months old Vedru has to find his way around and orientate himself here.
View to north.
View to south. The marked area left from Vedru is to see enlarged in the third picture.
The enlarged area. This does look forested. But the picture is from year 2010; nobody knows how it looks today. Maybe it‘s still a place where a Black Stork can spend the night.
View to south.

An enlarged picture from the area. It looks indeed forested. But also this picture is 10 years old, - from July 2010.Anne7 wrote: ↑December 1st, 2020, 2:10 pm ...
I'm not sure there is a real forest near or at Vedru's latest known location, as Google Maps indicates.

...
I hope that Vedru has only flown over this area. But he still has to fly about 1300 km over pure desert areas until he reaches Ethiopia.
If he really does fly to Ethiopia, we will hopefully get new data from him from time to time - like with Timmu!

Hello everyone
I'm not home tonight, so I can't document the tracker map today.
You're right, of course ... most storks winter in Africa. And Israel would be too small to accommodate them all. :-)
I was also happy to see how determined Vedru flew the correct route.
Presumably the stopovers in Lebanon and Israel have given him strength.
Yes, little Vedru still has a long journey ahead!
May he reach a comfortable location, safe and sound... and send us a little update every now and then...

Thank you very much for all wonderful pics, Michi! There’s indeed a forest. It is amazing that these trees can grow in such a rugged volcanic desert.Michi wrote: ↑December 1st, 2020, 11:33 pm An enlarged picture from the area. It looks indeed forested. Our forum was not accessible for a time today. It is restored now but it looks different!
This is because we have enjoyed/suffered (delete which does not apply)
an update. Webmaster is working to correct any errors remaining and he will correct the design later

Personally, I find that so much white (so much light) is tiring for my eyes. I will need sunglasses.
Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it.
Edit: I diminished now the brightness of my computer screen a little. Hmm... that's a little better.
But I prefer the previous style, which was much easier to read.
