Both these maps are the same. On each, Karula's travel ends at Pozaravac.
So I need not have made two separate maps!

I have replaced the first map with another, better version. This one really is from April 7 to April8.

Many thanks for the trackermaps, Jo!
I'm glad that we have again a sign from Karula. :D

He travelled a lot! Karula is already in Serbia!

I leave the detailed maps to Anne. She's better at this than I am. :D

Will he continue beyond Romania? Will he make a straight north run for Estonia and home? Perhaps this is his gap year, just right for travelling.

I don't think Karula will go to Estonia. He is only (almost) 2 years old.
Rather I suspect that he will spend the summer in Romania or in Moldova. In both countries during the summer months I saw storks from the Baltic States that were not yet sexually mature.

It's a relief to have these updates.

Yesterday 08.04

Image

Karula spent the night on Thasos, near the Waterfall Maries. :D
One can see many nice photos on Google Maps here
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Water ... 24.6465896

He started to travel at about 09:30
Image

It took him a bit less than an hour to cross the water.

Still on 08.04...

Karula flew in Bulgaria along the border with North Macedonia, and reached Serbia.
Around 19:50, he flew over Leskovac at 50 km/h
Image

"Leskovac is a city and the administrative center of the Jablanica District in southern Serbia. According to the 2011 census, the city urban area has 60,288 inhabitants, while the city administrative area has 144,206.4
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leskovac

Today 09.04

This is Karula's route today.
Image

He spent his first night in Serbia near Donje Stopanje, and was on the road again around 10:00.
(All times are UTC+3)
Image
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donje_Stopanje

"Donje Stopanje is a village in the municipality of Leskovac, Serbia. According to the 2002 census, the village has a population of 1136 people."

In the late afternoon he reached the village Trnjane and will probably stay in that area for the night.
Image

Nabrđe is a village in the municipality of Požarevac, Serbia. According to the 2002 census, the village has a population of 346 people.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nabrđe

Trnjane is a village in the municipality of Aleksinac, Serbia. According to the 2002 census, the village has a population of 1361 people.

Sorry, now I've posted 4 pictures here.

I've added the altitudes over the sea. This time Karula flew higher than before. But not really high. 40 m? He could have flown 500 meters high, couldn't he? At least there were no negative altitudes!

Altitude in meters.

April 10th

Hello, everyone!

I made 2 other pictures showing Karula's location (last night).
He was south of the Danube and the Deliblatska Peščara Nature Reserve, in Serbia.
I am very curious to see how far Karula will continue flying and where he will spend the summer.

The yellow arrow was 'the expected route' towards Estonia.
I agree with Michi. :hi: Given his young age, Karula will not necessarily fly as far as Estonia, but possibly stop his spring migration somewhere along that route.

Anyhow, the situation is somewhat different now. Karula deviated from the expected route.
We can only wait and see. :D

Looks like Karula took a 'rest' day?
Or was he just looking for food?
He did not fly very far today.

"Baranda (Serbian Cyrillic: Баранда) is a village in Serbia. It is situated in the Opovo municipality, South Banat District, Vojvodina province. The village has a Serb ethnic majority (93.56%) and its population numbering 1,550 people. The village was a center point of the popular television series "Vratiće se rode" (English: The Storks Will Return)." :D
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baranda
I will look up what this television series is about. Or maybe there is a forum member who knows this series?
Edit:
OK, I found it: "The series follows the exploits of a couple of Belgrade petty criminals nicknamed Ekser and Švaba. Each with his own set of emotional and financial issues, they look to rectify their latest problems when Švaba unexpectedly inherits a house from a deceased relative in the Banat village of Baranda."

"Sakule (Serbian Cyrillic: Сакуле) is a village in Serbia. It is situated in the Opovo municipality, in the South Banat District, Vojvodina province. The village has a Serb ethnic majority (94,82%) and its population numbering 2,048 people (2002 census)."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sakule

Karula spent the night and the the entire morning at the fish ponds near Uzdin.
At about 14:45 he started flying.
Image

He flew in southwest direction and quickly reached the ponds near Sakule and Baranda.
