I don't know if a lot has been done yet to improve the water quality of the Zarqa River. :puzzled:
But the authorities are aware that something needs to be done urgently.

I read this:
18 December 2018
EU, EBRD* announce a $ 34 mln deal to finance the expansion of Jordan's As Samra wastewater treatment plant
[.....]
https://www.zawya.com/mena/en/business/ ... 133280199/
Hello Anne and everyone,
after reading the whole article I have doubts if the planned measures will be sufficient.
Among other things there is said:
"Due to the high population growth, the plant is expected to reach its maximum capacity for wastewater treatment soon, and thanks to the project, the current treatment capacity of 365,000 cubic metres per day will increase by 100,000 cubic metres per day, the statement added."

This means that the wastewater treatment plant is not overloaded at the moment, it works within its capacity. If it really is so, how can the river Zarqa be so dirty?
They expand capacities because the population is growing. This, of course, creates even more waste. The expansion of the plant shall help here. But I do not see any activities to improve the river's water fundamentally and sustainably.
After all I don't expect an improvement. It's sad.

Thank you, Sova and Hellem, for todays updates!
Solo, many thanks for Marus detailed report, and Anne, for Karulas tracker map! :2thumbsup:

:hi: Michi,
this wastewater plan is here: https://i.postimg.cc/FF83fjr0/Waste-plan.jpg
I think that the area where our Karula is this days that has not impact
(Where are exatly the photos about the bad situation on Zarqa river? People around the welt made that with rivers  ... Much and big problems  )

Michi, you're welcome - that 2 detailed reports is only exceptionaly (argument, why I like tracker maps - we are able learning so much about their behavior in wintering areas)

Hello, Michi and Solo :hi:
Yes, it is sad that so many countries in the world still lack the financial possibilities and/or the public awareness to resolve the most urgent pollution problems (water, earth, air).
Michi, did you watch part 2 of the documentary that you posted recently? It is said that because of climate change, most probably, European birds will no longer migrate in about 50-100 years!
So most Black Storks will winter in the countries where they breed...
Then it is 100% our task and challenge (OK, also our children and grandchildren) to ensure that all environmental problems in our own countries have been thoroughly resolved.
Also in our countries, much work still needs to be done, but there are also signs of hope and some encouraging successes have already been achieved.

Once more, there was no tracker update on Maru.
I hope she is OK. The next tracker update will be tomorrow morning.

Here is Maru's latest tracker map, so only from this morning
The latest data are from 10:31:49 (UTC+2)

Hello together, hello Anne and Solo,

thanks a lot for the updates of our young storks, pictures and tracker maps! :2thumbsup:
Anne7 wrote: January 6th, 2019, 11:02 pm Michi, did you watch part 2 of the documentary that you posted recently? It is said that because of climate change, most probably, European birds will no longer migrate in about 50-100 years!

Also in our countries, much work still needs to be done, but there are also signs of hope and some encouraging successes have already been achieved.
In our TV station it was only 1 part, - both together in one. Yes, I've heard what the German ornithologist has said. If I remember right, he said, in 100 years birds will no longer migrate. But he was the only one who said this. :)
If migration and the associated dangers are omitted, this of course would be wonderful for the birds. Milliards of birds that simply disappear every year during migration could live.

But this will probably happen only then, if temperatures in Europe will increase significant and if there is enough food all the time. It is reported always and everywhere - at least in Germany - that many bird species in our country are already disappearing because there is not enough food for them. No food, no suitable habitat. Also, that the number of previously abundant species is significantly reduced. It is alarming already.

Yes, there are little signs of hope. In my country, the protection of birds (but mainly insects!) has become an issue. But the government does not enough. There's always a minister who cares (too) much for the farmers. They don't want to ban herbicide like Glyphosat completely. I can't understand this.
But this is of course only one point of many. It is indeed a lot to do to make the European countries bird-safe.
In general, not all countries in the EU are pulling in the same direction. Today I don't even know a single country that's willing to do enough. And with 27 member states in the EU it is very, very difficult to reach agreements.
I'm quite pessimistic in this point. There are too many ignorant people out there. 8-)

Anne :hi: , thanks a lot for the summary!
But save yourself a little these days. We can skip the summary for some days, I think. Nothing much is happening right now anyway.
If necessary, I can do the summary.

I wish you much strength and energy. :2thumbsup:
Sleep well, all! :offtobed:
