Hello everyone,

I don't know if it is already known, the camera at Karl II's nest in Karula national park is online!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R85D9UivLlc
Just now the birds have their evening concert. :D

So we won't miss the arrival of the nest owner. Hopefully it is Karl II with ring and transmitter. :2thumbsup:

Many thanks, Urmas and colleagues!

Hello, everyone!

Thanks for the information, Michi!

Thank you, Jo :hi:

KARL II is still in the same area, near the village Tereshivtsi, in the Khmelnytskyi Oblast in Ukraine.

I have no idea why he is not flying further north.
Is there so much food to be found that he cannot resist, or is he in absolutely no hurry to be in Estonia? :puzzled:
Or is the weather bad?

Today KARL II moved 6.74 km.
This evening the battery level was 99%.

Anne, I have no idea either. It is indeed a bit strange that Karl II takes so much time. Usually the Black Storks make almost no breaks on their way north, and if they do, then only one or two very short ones. Predominantly they are in a great hurry. As we could see with Karl the First in 2018 and see it now with Eedi (also in the last years) and Timmu.
On the other hand, Eedi and Raivo once took breaks of even 18 days on the flight to the north a few years ago. And we can observe Auda. He also takes a long time to return for the breeding season. From Karl II and Auda we don't know if they do this every year. Maybe it‘s a question of character?
At this stage I'm not worried yet.

Another cause is indeed bad weather. Then many storks stop flying. But I‘ve doubts if this is the reason here. Maybe Sova :hi: can make a weather report of Karl II‘s area!?

The only (big) disadvantage of Karl II arriving later at the nest is that it might already be occupied, as you know of course. I hope this does not happen.

Good morning

Yes, Eedi visited the nest.
So good to see him!

Sova, thanks for the weather report for Karl II (still in Ukraine).
You are certainly right, he didn’t fly because of the wind. BS do not like to travel with (strong) headwinds.
It’s a waste of energy.

Michi!

Many thanks for the weather report, Sova! :2thumbsup: So there‘s indeed a reason for Karl II not to fly. Hopefully it will get better soon.

Eedi didn't call when landing on the nest. Why?
