Good evening all together,

ORU most likely has spent at least the last night in the field near the small forest in the middle of the picture. Maybe also the night before, the night from 19th to 20th of August. But the tracker map didn't show all data to verify this, - if I've seen it right.
I wonder why he hasn't slept in the trees of that forest.
All times are UTC+3.
View to north, viewing height is 1,2 km.


It looks like tonight Oru will sleep in this tiny forest.
Viewing height is 488 m.


Thank you all for todays tracker maps, reports, the nice videos and the interesting pictures of the surroundings. Also Orus current position in the fields looks nice. But I ask myself what kind of food he finds there.

Until now there is no update in the birdmap for Karls and Karl II's family, also not for Eedi.

ORU - 1115 km (+5 km), still in the Nature Reserve Warzewo in Poland

ARU - 156 km (+1 km), the same pond near Eglupe in Latvia

KARULA - 458 km (+5 km), north from Nuhören (Porsuk stream area) in Turkey

But no worries, it looks like Oru spent the night from 20 to 21 August on a tree in the little forest.

Michi, you are right, Oru's transmitter doesn't send data at night.
(No data between 21:07:29 (UTC+3) on 20.08 and 05:55:58 (UTC+3) on 21.08.)
This is how it is set up in OrniTrack. I think the purpose of not collecting data at night is to save the battery.

8 hours are "skipped".

The fact that our storklets stopped in a certain place for a few days is probably still connected with the change of the wind.
Here's a map of the winds and air currents at the moment. When they flew, the wind was from the South. Now prevailing East and West winds.

And since they are young, perhaps for them the southern air currents also play a big role in path recognition.

Some birds migrate without using stopovers, whereas others need to stop at least once during their migration: 1-5 stopovers were observed per bird (more here: https://www.looduskalender.ee/forum/vie ... 23#p689223

Pirkko, yes - if it is enough food or if the weather is bad (other situation is injured or perished bird - e.g. mortality signal from transmitter)
