25 February

It's getting on for 5 pm nest time and the stream is down. Just a temporary glitch, hopefully.
It was OK in the morning and around noon, with Mom occupying the nest and shielding the chick, who's still keeping a very low profile

Hello!
Thank you for your reports.

There is a video on Facebook where we can see the head of the chick! :headroll:
https://www.facebook.com/15188718084190 ... 990442516/

I made a few screenshots from that video.
Not quite sharp, but nevertheless very cute. :D

26 February

:hi:
At 12:38 nest time the stream is back on (it was still off this morning around 9 am). Mum K74 is occupying the nest, facing right (from the viewer's perspective).
At 12:46 she lets out a yawn - is that supposed to mean that no exciting developments have taken place? Then there's a bit of preening, following which she gets to her feet. At 12:52 she's back to the sitting position across the nest, now facing left. Hm, I might have just missed out on a chance to sight the chick while writing this post

[...] missed a shift change [...]

14:27-14:29 It's Dad's turn now. He's standing over the chick, his wings spread like an umbrella to shield the chick from sunlight. Then Dad's beak makes contact with the chick.
14:29 A feeding starts with Dad regurgitating a sizeable chunk (of whatever). That little ball of white fluff in the nest bowl that is the chick, agitated, accepts a small portion.
14:31 Dad jumps to the left of camera view, leaving his offspring exposed to sunlight for a few minutes. A few more movements from the chick follow, nothing too spectacular.
14:37 The beaks make contact again.
14:39-14:42 Dad surveys the bottom of the nest bowl with his beak. The chick's head emerges and the hatchling engages in a little more activity. Dad takes out a small branch and puts it beyond the chick's reach. He has danced around the chick and is shielding the chick again from the sun's rays.
14:43-14:47 Every now and then Dad's and chick's beaks come into contact, though in most cases it seems a bit too short for any transfer of food.
14:48-14:54 Dad turns his back on the viewers; he keeps guarding the chick jealously for several minutes.
14:55-15:05 Dad is now kind of crouching over the chick, but one can still only see the back of him. The chick has been getting quite an airing for more than 30 minutes now.

Good to see the little one is doing fine. Bye for now

16:10 Both parents are at home. Dad gets up and makes a curious mating attempt but gives up after two seconds or so as Mom's rather unresponsive.

Tonight it's Mom who's staying with the chick
Image

Those glowing eyes, simply mesmerising. But then, what's worrying her so much at this time of night?

1 March

12:30 Mom is staying with the chick. Not much activity there.
Image

Mom has been staying with the chick at least the past few nights, perhaps since the chick hatched. Could this be a norm?

13:00 Dad has replaced Mom.

This is a very successful snapshot!
The tiny chick is also impressive compared to adults.

Please keep going. It is a pleasure to read and see here. Thank you! :2thumbsup:

:hi:, Polly. Thanks for your encouraging words 8-)

Meanwhile at the nest:
00:26 Not exactly a quiet night, is it? (Imagine waking up to see a vulture spreading its wings like this over you )
Image

00:29 You need good eyes to appreciate this: the chick's eye is reflecting the infrared lighting (just below Dad's beak)
